Biggest Guilty Pleasures

Postby Jeb on Thu Mar 05, 2009 2:54 am

Tremors
Napoleon Dynamite
Zoolander
Anchorman
National Treasure
Spaceballs
Crank
Plan 9 from Outer Space
Starship Troopers
Footloose
Grease

EDIT: Removed Planet of the Apes. I just recently re-watched it and it's not as silly, cartoonish and crazy as I remember. Masterful film.

Frankly I just feel sorry for you if you don't like Anchorman. No guilt needed.

I'm not exactly proud of liking Jersey Girl as much as I did. I'll actually re-watch it if I flip past it on TNT or whatever damn station plays it.

Why???

I don't really have many guilty pleasures that I can think of off the top of my head. I guess it's not hip to like Arnold Schwarzenegger but I dig a lot of his movies.

Loved it:

"Faust: Love of the Damned" (Brian Yuzna, 2001)
"Lara Croft: Tomb Raider" (Simon West, 2001)
"The Hot Chick" (Tom Brady, 2001)
"Caligula" (Tinto Brass, 1979)
"Murder Set-Pieces" (Nick Palumbo, 2004)

Enjoyed it:

"The Mummy" (Stephen Sommers, 1999)
"Strangeland" (John Pieplow, 1998)
"White Chicks" (Keenen Ivory Wayans, 2004)

I found this entertaining last time I watched it. I should probably see it again, but at the moment I don't understand the general disfavour.

I can't get Silkwood and The 39 Steps out of my head. Apparently I shouldn't feel guilty for the latter, but I do.

And sometimes I feel like adding 4 points to Magnificent Obsession - placing it in tier 9. It's not as 'good' as Imitation of Life, but I've got a lot more affection for it.

I couldn't get into it at all. Neither that or I just hate Will Ferrel. Either way, for some unknown reason I keep watching it.

So how does that make it a guilty pleasure?

A guilty pleasure is something you enjoy but know sucks. So again, how is that a guilty pleasure? If you don't like it then it can't be pleasurable.
