Between 1978 and 1983 he was incarcerated for armed robbery in Toulouse and Muret. His transformation in prison is recounted in his book, "Acting Out" (2009). He has published a large number of books in French at a very rapid rate, the most prominent themes of which are technology, time, and Stiegler's diagnosis of the way in which capitalism has become self-destructive.
