Mini-Review: I liked Terri quite a bit. It's not an exceptionally dark or morose movie, but to me it felt like the filmmakers keep putting the characters into scenes that were inherently sad or uncomfortable. John C. Reilly plays his character a little big, but Jacob Wysocki is a very subtle counterbalance to that. Most surprising is Creed Bratton. He's mostly known as the old creep from The Office, but his portrayal of an Alzheimer's afflicted uncle is very convincing.
Mini-Review: Easily one of the best of the Fast franchise. I'm not a huge car guy, so maybe it's because this movie seems to be taking the franchise away from the racing game. This is mostly a straight up heist movie. One in which the characters fight mano a mano and not behind the wheel. This movie is definitely a little long & still a little clunky, but the train robbery is one of the best action scenes of 2011.
Mini-Review: If there's one actor that I consistently can't stand, it's Dan Fogler. He's always at a 10 on the obnoxious scale. Still, Take Me Home Tonight isn't as unbearable as he is.
Mini-Review: There are definitely some unconventional pieces to this story, but it still comes across as a bland little melodrama.
Mini-Review: All the way awful. The script was terrible and the CGI effects were worse. The whole thing is a confusing, somber, cartooney mess. Thank goodness it felt short.
Mini-Review: This teacher is pretty bad, but harmless. I didn't really find myself too offended by Cameron Diaz's shenanigans. She's trashy and selfish, but I don't think her character caused the subject matter to get too dark. There's some pretty funny stuff in here. I would give special recognition to Lucy Punch. I think she did a great job with her character.
Mini-Review: Very unusual film. The plot is a little dicey, but it explores some interesting topics. The ending is extremely weak, bordering on ludicrous.
Mini-Review: Maybe it's just Kevin Spacey, but I felt like this was trying to be some kind of Glengarry Glen Ross/Wall Street hybrid. There's a lot of speechifying going on here. But it's not Mamet. Some of the dialogue is clunky as hell, but the subject matter is what carries the film. The information presented in this film is relevant and important. I would seriously recommend seeing this at least once.
Mini-Review: A surprising, strange, and intense film. I found myself impressed with this film because it isn't too flashy, but manages to create a disturbing character study that slowly peels back layers of how dark a few seemingly normal people can get.
Mini-Review: It's a so bad it's funny type of movie. The writing is terrible as is the acting, but it is goofy enough for a few chuckles. SPOILER ALERT: Ron Perlman headbutts the devil! That's all you really need to know.
