Bio: 'Film is a disease. When it infects your bloodstream, it takes over as the number one hormone; it bosses the enzymes; directs the pineal gland; plays Iago to your psyche. As with heroin, the antidote to film is more film.'-- Frank Capra
Recent Rankings
90 Being John Malkovich - Mar 21, 2010
Mini-Review: Completely surreal both with the visuals and some of the out-of-nowhere dialogue. This is one of the most truly original movies I've ever seen. It's creative and funny and has some great characters. And of course, it has John Malkovich gamely playing a living marionette version of himself. It was very good of him to lend himself to this movie.
84 Saw - Mar 11, 2010
Mini-Review: The beginning of a sickening legacy. I actually sort of enjoyed the first Saw movie, but it by no means needed a franchise.
75 Broken Arrow - Mar 11, 2010
Mini-Review: Stupid, empty action film from John Woo. Clunky lines of dialogue and bad acting permeate this bomb, pun intended. Woo's endeavors in American action films are really painfully bad at times.
80 World Trade Center - Mar 11, 2010
Mini-Review: I was quick to judge this movie. I thought it was too soon to capitalize on a national tragedy. I thought it was wrong to try and dramatize something that was still so raw and fresh in people's memories. But this film did the best it could and did the right thing by not trying to re-enact the entire event from a broad viewpoint, but instead focused on the stories of just a few of the people who were there.
85 Raising Arizona - Mar 11, 2010
Mini-Review: Raising Arizona is an entity of comedy that has been praised over and over. It is a real good film that is quirky and cartoonish. It dares you not to love it and it makes me shake my head and wonder what happened to Nicolas Cage because this is one of his rare, great performances.
83 What Dreams May Come - Mar 11, 2010
Mini-Review: There are some amazing visuals in this movie. I think a lot of people end up trashing this film, and I get why. But, I think the film has some interesting ideas about what happens after death. It's not a great film, but at least it's interesting and creative.
82 Unforgiven - Mar 11, 2010
Mini-Review: Very good. The movie is beautiful and there are some great particularly good performances, particularly from Gene Hackman and Clint Eastwood. It's hard to explain how well the movie pits the two against each other. I almost ended up rooting for both of them up until the third act.
79 Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines - Mar 11, 2010
Mini-Review: The lesser of all the Terminator movies. Some of the action is good, but the movie's climax is a giant WTF.
80 Gandhi - Mar 11, 2010
Mini-Review: Watched this movie on DVD. Fell asleep. Usually when I fall asleep during a movie, I'll make sure to go back and rewatch what I missed. This time I didn't. Wasn't worth it. The movie is too long, too slow, and I feel like I got what I needed out of what I saw.
80 Find Me Guilty - Mar 11, 2010
Mini-Review: Pretty interesting story, just not told in an especially interesting way. Notable mostly for being the movie where Vin Diesel delivers more lines of dialogue than punches, and also for being the movie in which he has the most hair, Find Me Guilty is only OK.
