Mini-Review: Definitely an interesting, and even a bit entertaining doc. However, much like its predecessors about the food industry, it lacks enlightenment, and obviously preaches to the choir. It puts a bit too much emphasis on its flash and doesn't ignore, but softens the substance. They did the best they could with the topic, though. It's just not that elusive of an issue anymore. The section on e coli was definitely an angering point, however.
Mini-Review: After seeing WALL-E, I didn't think it was possible for an animated film to be as cinematic. I was wrong. Toy Story 3 is a triumph for Pixar and for all of film. The story was nearly perfect. As a sequel, it held onto the themes and memories of the original, any yet never turned any of them to cheese. By the end, I don't believe I could ever feel so satisfied. The perfect end to this trilogy. Overall, the film is at least the quality of its former, if not surpassing.
Mini-Review: How does this man do it? Christopher Nolan seems to be going through this phase right now of just being one of the most brilliant filmmakers in the world. This may not be his best film, but it doesn't really matter. The movie is a near-perfect action thriller. It just never stops thrilling you, or blowing your mind either, for that matter. Great performances, especially from Gordon Levitt and Hardy. The world awaits for Christopher Nolan to actually not make a fantastic movie.
Mini-Review: Really not sure what to make of this movie, but that's not entirely unusual for David Lynch fare. Basically, it's a huge collection of everything that he wanted to include in the television show, but couldn't because, well, its TV. Graphic and visceral, it definitely has some stone cold classic Lynch visuals. However, some of the acting is preposterous, the story is jumbled and severely lacking cohesion as a whole. It really just doesn't come together fully as a film.
Mini-Review: A by-the-numbers comedy which more or less gets the job done. It's pretty funny, but just keeps overusing its motifs and plot devices until its just too damn much. Tomei is great, but certainly not worthy of the Oscar then some of the better performances that year, like Judy Davis or Helena Bonham Carter. Overall, watchable, but quite average.
Mini-Review: I really wanted to like this movie more than I did, which isn't to say that it isn't still great. What this movie does better than so many others is to give a magnificently honest portrayal of human relationships. I applaud it for that and its fantastic performances across the whole board. However, I wish it could have had a bit more comedic value. And while the ending is fairly satisfying, it leaves nearly 50% of the film pretty unresolved.
Mini-Review: Average as average comes. A disappointment from one of the best trailers I've seen in a while. The film just loves to resort to cliches in both its characters, plot points and editing. What a surprise. It does have some thrills, but most of the scares are pretty cheap. At least it's fairly well shot. Overall, not worth it.
Mini-Review: It is pretty damned hard not to start enjoying yourself after the first five minutes of this movie. And if you're not, you're just not having enough fun at the movies. Even someone like me has to admit that. Even if the story gets almost too unimaginably silly near the end to bare, this is a great flick. Harrelson and Eisenberg are fantastic together. Stone is hot as hell. Breslin is actually just annoying. Also worth watching for the Phantom-shot slow motion opening credit sequence.
Mini-Review: This movie is unimaginably over the top on every level one can think of. The performances, the story, even the music. I don't whether that's what Cobb was really like, or if the portrayal is exaggerated. It's just bad filmmaking to not have barely a single moment of subtlety or nuance. Kind of a waste.
Mini-Review: If nothing else, this film was the biggest happy accident ever. For the filmmakers to accatch on tape everything that went wrong with this production is spectacular. As a filmmaker, this film is a nightmare. The flood was particularly disturbing.
