Mini-Review: A good movie, but not a great one. The screenplay is interesting, but it was interesting when it was Tender Mercies, and really kind of unsatisfying in the end. Jeff Bridges is obviously fantastic. and I sure as hell don't mind that he now has an Oscar. The real gem in the film is Maggie Gyllenhaal, delivering without a doubt, her best performance to date. However, The Weary Kind by Ryan Bingham and T-Bone Burnett is the bee's knees. Such an incredible song that I could listen to over and over.
Mini-Review: By far, the experience far outweighs the actual quality of the film itself. The story does not suck, but its average, contrived and a complete rehash of about 5 or 10 other films, most of which have already come from Cameron's brain. Most of the acting is pretty stale, as well. But despite all of this, the movie still kicks ass and it is very difficult not to become enthralled.
Mini-Review: Nothing really special at all. The premise is pretty ridiculous and overshadows everything in the film, not that the rest is really important.
Mini-Review: Not really worth reviewing. It is what it is. Glad Jeremy Renner has moved on from films like this and been discovered for his talent.
Mini-Review: Not much need for a review. Not good. The whole animal mafia thing was kind of cool, but who really cares. The rest of the characters were completely uninteresting and unfunny. And I really didn't understand where a lot of the conflict within the family was coming from. It didn't make much sense. Pointless sequel.
Mini-Review: Only a little bit disappointing, only because with this movie's hype, I should have basically been laughing during every waking moment. Definitely a great comedy, but nothing to bow down to, completely. Not even the best comedy of the year......."IN THE LOOP!!!"
Mini-Review: As of right now, this is the best movie of the year. The acting is superb, including the role that has solidified George Clooney as an actor to be admired and remembered. Jason Reitman, for the first time, has blown me away by his direction. The editing is some of the most cohesive and exciting editing I've seen this year. And finally, this is one of the most original, most enjoyable, most satisfying...simply the best screenplay that I've watched unfold in a while. Boom.
Mini-Review: The performances obviously raise this film far above the level of average. Superb editing and a unique directorial style also add to its power. Yet the film is insanely melodramatic and by the end, I didn't feel quite as moved as I would have liked. It's still great, however, and Mo'Nique definitely deserves her coming gold.
Mini-Review: I really don't find the need to justify my reasons for not liking this film. I don't think anything could have annoyed me as much as the stupid dog's voice, but seeing that horribly contrived live action version of him riding an ATV and partaking in a farting contest totally proved me wrong. Seeing this worthless cast stumble through the inane dialogue was right up there, too. Whoever thought this could translate well to live action was smoking too much of whatever Shaggy's on.
Mini-Review: Surprisingly, not one of the ABSOLUTE worst romantic comedies that I've ever seen, but don't get me wrong. It was still really bad. Zooey Deschanel was really the only ray of hope. But the question remains: What the fuck were the filmmakers thinking with random and sporadic animal attacks. As a metaphorical motif, it doesn't work. As a comedic element, it's not funny. Just what in the fuck were they thinking?
