75 Wasabi (2001) - Sep 23, 2007
Mini-Review: Movies written by Luc Besson and including actors such as Jean Reno and Carole Bouquet are always fun to watch. Having said that, this was not the "creme de la creme" of Besson, Reno, nor of Bouquet's films. It was a relatively fluffy action flick, with a nice dose of humorous moments to keep the audience amused. Perfectly acceptable for a relaxing night of light-hearted, easy-to-digest movie watching.
90 The Unbearable Lightness of Being (1988) - Sep 21, 2007
Mini-Review: An excellent rendition of Milan Kundera's novel with an exquisite cast. It's been a while since I've seen it but I remember it as having been the catalyst to falling in love with Kundera's novels.
85 Canadian Bacon (1995) - Sep 21, 2007
Mini-Review: A funny movie with a very serious undertone which may, or may not, be caught and appreciated by everyone. I think that much more than being just some "silly John Candy movie", it's got some insightful social and political commentary to make about American politics, especially its Foreign Policy.
90 Contact (1997) - Sep 21, 2007
Mini-Review: So excellent. The debates between the worlds of science and religion are two crucial areas which need to meet and "Contact" helps to do just that in cinematic form. A beautiful movie portraying the notion that science and religion do not need to exist in mutually exclusive dimensions, even if many people believe it to be so.
85 Super Size Me (2004) - Sep 21, 2007
Mini-Review: An excellent documentary about McDonald's and the obesity problem in the States. The movie goes on to explore marketing ploys as well. A very good cautionary tale with Morgan adding in his own brand of humour at regular intervals turning "serious" into "serious fun".
95 Grosse Pointe Blank (1997) - Sep 21, 2007
Mini-Review: Edgy, intelligent and hilarious. Loved this movie! Plus, a very fun 80's soundtrack to boot - can't beat that.
90 Nacho Libre (2006) - Sep 21, 2007
Mini-Review: So much fun! Jack Black was hilarious, as were the rest of the crew. Great for adults, as well as kids.
70 Shortbus (2006) - Sep 21, 2007
Mini-Review: I thought this film was well made in terms of cinematography and portrayal of sexual subcultures. It would have been nice to see the development of the various personality types a bit more though. Instead, it shared with the viewer a snapshot of a sensual journey without talking about where it might all eventually lead. That would have been something I would have loved to have seen.
99 Amélie (2001) - Sep 21, 2007
Mini-Review: I absolutely loved this movie! The storyline, as well as the cinematography, pleased every human sense. Humorous, sad, touching and playful, all at the same time. Simply fantastic.
80 Doctor Strange (2007) - Sep 21, 2007
Mini-Review: A good Marvel movie. Nice animation, lots of action and the storyline, as well as the main message, are interesting as well. Fun for kids and adults alike.
