Mini-Review: DotM is better than the previous one, mostly because at least this time it tries to have a decent story. It doesn't really manage that, but it tries. And it has fewer cringeworthy scenes. The action and the CGI is in line with what you've seen before, only they've been cranked up to eleven. All in all it's actually fun to watch, so it's not a bad movie experience... as long as you don't take it seriously, 'cause this shit is supposed to be mindless. Michael Bay wouldn't have any other way.
Mini-Review: Looking for Eric tries to appeal to two different crowds: those that are looking too see a modern iteration of British social realism and those that are interested in English football. Unfortunately it doesn't really deliver enough to any of those two crowds to be a truly good movie. And while it seems like an original idea behind the movie, it ends up being pretty predictable, even cliched. Fortunately the movie is still enjoyable despite this. And Eric Cantona is not a man. He's Cantona.
Mini-Review: I've got mixed feeling about this. On the one hand Eastwood is as intense as he's ever been and for the most part the movie is enjoyable, but on the other hand by the time the movie is over you just feel like you've seen a story stitched together from cliches and with a fairly unspectacular, even poor, supporting cast. In fact if it wasn't for Clint Eastwood this thing would've been pretty bad. The fact Eastwood brings this movie from pretty bad to reasonably good is a credit to the guy.
Mini-Review: I have to admit it was a good watch, but it just feels as if too much was crammed into this movie. Or that the material wasn't given enough time on screen to be properly developed. Anyway, it can be pretty difficult to follow what's going on if you're not paying attention... and even if you are, you might still need to watch this again to understand how everything pieces together.
Mini-Review: The Director's Cut of this movie is a great improvement over the theatrical release; in fact it would probably deserve to be listed separately. The DC is truly a good movie, a very good movie with good acting and some remarkable dialogue. Of course, while it takes liberties with historical facts, it's an accurate portrayal of the world and the politics at the height of the Great Crusades.
Mini-Review: A very interesting thriller, it's one of the few movies that truly had me fooled for the duration. While it was obvious there was something amiss, the ending got me totally by surprise.
Mini-Review: An excellent docu-drama about the horrors of atomic warfare.
Mini-Review: If you're a fan of good music and lighthearted comedies this is a great movie to watch. It's not extraordinary, but it is very fun; thank God it avoids most of the pitfalls of rom-coms. Don't get me wrong, you're still going to get your dose of 'sugar' if that's what you're going for, but if you're like me and that's not exactly your thing, this movie is still a good watch. The cast does a good job, Jack Black's Jack Black. Oh, and it's a good way to learn about some pretty good songs and bands.
Mini-Review: Very funny. Very cute. Pixar funny. Pixar cute.
Mini-Review: The story is a bit of a mash-up of a number separate events, as the real Munro set a record 6 years after his first run at Bonneville. Still, the heart of the story is there. It's a pleasant watch, but it does occasionally have what I would describe as a 'fairy-tale' feel to it that puts a damper on the idea that this is supposed to be a movie based on real events. Anthony Hopkins is of course great here too. One note: it's not really a movie about bikes and racing, but it has exciting bits.
