2 Mac and Me (1988) - Sep 01, 2011
Mini-Review: Has to be my least favorite movie of all time. Not only is it painfully horrible all the way through, it also dared to be so ghastly while ripping off one of the (very few) absolute masterpieces of cinema. Shame on all people who participated in making this piece of junk.
68 The Trotsky (2009) - Sep 03, 2011
Mini-Review: You don't always see comedies about teenagers in which half of the soundtrack consists of old Russian songs. The picture is really smart and funny up until the last 40 minutes which seem to make use of pretty much every cliché imaginable. Baruchel is consistently wonderful though.
76 Spirit of the Beehive (1973) - Sep 03, 2011
Mini-Review: Although it is essentially a critique of Spanish post-war social situation, for me it was mostly a piece about the effect films have on their viewers. Perhaps it wasn't the main theme of the picture (it's certainly not "Peeping Tom"), but that was something that really stood out for me. I was impressed with Erice's depiction of children - the two girls are not afraid of their surroundings after watching "Frankenstein", instead they become more fascinated with the mysterious world around them.
45 Meetin' WA (1986) - Sep 05, 2011
Mini-Review: I wish Godard didn't have to inflict his enormous ego on us by cutting Allen's answers in his typical annoying style, but I'm not giving this a lower score because we were blessed with at least some input from one of the best American filmmakers. I wish the French one would just stop his shtick.
