88 The Damned United (2009) - Feb 23, 2010
Mini-Review: This film single-handley refreshed my need for smart, witty and powerful sports movies. There is just so much brilliance in this film. Michael Sheen gives an award worthy performance as Brian Clough. The best sports film I've seen in at least five years.
85 Star Trek (2009) - Feb 20, 2010
Mini-Review: It is beyond difficult to reinvent a franchise for the mainstream audience while not upsetting the hardcore fanbase. JJ Abrams has surpassed all expectations with his own adaption of the Star Trek universe. Its was a fun and memorable movie throughout. What really got me though, was the dead on casting of all the characters. I throughouly enjoyed seeing Simon Pegg in this movie more than anything. A great popcorn action flick.
85 The Hangover (2009) - Feb 20, 2010
Mini-Review: Possibly the funniest movie in years. Todd Phillips has just added another killer comedy to his resume. Non-stop laughter from a clever script from start to finish. The film's biggest downside is the fact that the role of Ken Jeong was not funny at all. A total swing and a miss on that but that is the only true downside to this hilarious film.
88 Akira (1988) - Feb 20, 2010
Mini-Review: For someone that is not a big fan of anime films to begin with, this film literally blew me away. Visually brilliant but intelligent enough so you can enjoy it. Immersive at even its lowest quality...a marvelous achievement.
93 District 9 (2009) - Feb 20, 2010
Mini-Review: It's extremley difficult to create a sophisticated, original work of science ficition in this day and age...That being said, District 9 delivers well beyond my expectations with stunning moral and global themes throughout its runtime. A powerful and visually enjoyable adventure. A must see...
88 Dirty Harry (1971) - Feb 20, 2010
Mini-Review: Probably one my favorite cop movies of all time. The film that made me love Clint Eastwood.
88 Gran Torino (2008) - Feb 20, 2010
Mini-Review: Eastwood portrays the ultimate badass in this classic hometown drama. This film excels in almost every aspect except for the miscasted teenage boy who drags down the movie and the overall experience.
98 Inglourious Basterds (2009) - Feb 18, 2010
Mini-Review: Possibly Tarantino's masterpiece. The script is sheer genius and the movie dazzles on the screen. Christoph Waltz literally steals the show and gives one of the best acting performances I've ever seen.
90 Up in the Air (2009) - Feb 18, 2010
Mini-Review: Up in the Air is an hysterical, original work that comes together brilliantly. Clooney shines in this role as only he is capable of. The end result is a intelligent, slapstick comedy with plenty of hidden cameos to keep you chuckling.
70 The Lovely Bones (2009) - Feb 18, 2010
Mini-Review: Peter Jackson brings imagination and visionary cinematography to life in the Lovely Bones. Despite the fact that this a beautiful and touching film, there just isnt enough plot in it to justify its own runtime. The film starts to drag and veer off course early on and diminishes the world around it. With more of an adaptive screenplay, something truly exciting could have been achieved here. Jackson's work is still worth seeing the film, just not the admission ticket.
