Mini-Review: At times, hilarioulsy funny to downright side splitting, Anchorman ushered in a whole new era of quotable lines which never seen to get old no matter how many times you hear them. Will Ferrell does what he's been doing his whole career, making me laugh until it hurts. The supporting cast is excellent too which includes fellow funnyman Steve Carrell. The plot is simple, but effective; Ferrell plays 70s news anchor Ron Burgundy in a role he was born to make his own. One of my all-time favourites.
Mini-Review: My God, the IMDB summary of this film does NOT do it justice. Fast paced, well acted, witty, solid plot, and with some of the most quotable lines in movie history this is the perfect action movie. It's the one that launched Bruce Willis into the movie world and your living room from start to finish. Alan Rickman is also extremely entertaining as the world best villain with the worlds best accent. I could watch this movie over and over again until my eyes fall out. Yippee Kye Yay Motherfucker!
Mini-Review: Uniquely thrilling and disgusting all at the same time, Saw takes torture to another level. Two guys chained to a pipe by their ankles at either sides of a filty bathroom with no idea how they got there with no link between them...or is there? Kept me guessing to the end, but don't worry I'm not going to post the ending here...but trust me you don't see it coming. Spawing 3 more sequels, Saw is a thriller you need to watch twice before you really get it.
Mini-Review: It's always good when a film launches a thousand internet memes...and 300 is one of those films. A rather sculpted Gerard Butler takes on an army of epic proportions...and loses, but hey, if he did it with style..what does it matter? Coming from the pen of Frank Miller, the creator of Sin City, 300 also takes on a dynamic visual style which makes the incredible action sequences seem almost real. The only downside is that it makes the scenes back in Sparta seem slow and loborious. This is Sparta!
Mini-Review: As a HUGE Transformers fan when I was young, I was really looking forward to seeing this remake as I'd worn out my video copy of the 80s movie as I'd watched it so many times. Damn, was I disappointed! Dont get me wrong though, the action sequences were very impressive, however the CGI was just a little bit too obvious. I commend the director's attention to detail and homage to the original, but there were just too many parts that were supposed to be funny that just came off as being tacky.
Mini-Review: Coming from a bloke's perspective, I found nothing that would put me off this movie...it wasn't overly girly and featured Cameron Diaz in parts not wearing very much at all...however, due to it being essentially a 'chick flick', most guys will not touch this film with a ten foot man pole. They'd be missing out on some top quality lady action. The plot had a few holes in it didn't really require a lot of thought, but thats the thing, it's a chick flick...so it didn't need to.
Mini-Review: In the wake of the first film a few years earlier, Ghostbusters 2 finds itself shrouded in underestimation. I don't understand why this is the case, same director, same cast, same basic story (ghosts/New York). Some very cool effects for the time and the introduction of a couple of new recruits to ghostbusting keeps this film fresh...and to be honest a bit scary at times as I've been so afraid of a painting in my entire life. Booo!!
Mini-Review: Metallica are one of the biggest bands in history, and as of late, have been a bit secretive with their actions...but not here, SKOM splits them wide open in a way I thought a documentary never could. As a huge Metallica fan my opinions of the band as individuals changed somewhat, and I'm not the only one who saw them for who they really were. SKOM portrays them at their very weakest, spinning into a scenario which almost sees them breaking up. Intrusive and intresting, if a bit too long.
Mini-Review: Take a look into this movie, and your opinion of John Lithgow playing 'that guy in Third Rock From The Sun' will change - dramatically. Lithgow plays Carter Nix, the son of a mad child psychologist who used him as his own guinea pig for his own twisted experiments. These experiments split his mind into Carter and Cain...Good and Evil...with some shocking results. The plot gets a little muddy and confusing at times but it's one of the best straight-to-video films I've ever seen.
Mini-Review: John Woo takes two of the highest paid actors of the day and makes them point guns at each other for two hours. This essentially is what 'Face Off' is on the face of things...but there's sooo much more to it than that. The way the two characters completely change their roles and personalities gets me every time, and just keeps me watching it over and over again. Oh, and once again, being a John Woo film, the action sequences are nothing short of breathtaking. One of my all time favorites.
