56 X-Men Origins: Wolverine (2009) - May 03, 2009
Mini-Review: Wolverine is a bloated film with too many characters and dosen't spend enough time on Wolverine himself. With its forgettable and brainless plot, it's not a movie that leaves you satisfied which is quite a shame when you consider its potential. Nothing in Wolverine stands out as memorable. In terms of tone and content, Wolverine is a close match to Daredevil and Ghost Rider. Wolverine was made by people more interested in money than telling a coherent story so the movie suffers for it.
41 The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor (2008) - Mar 14, 2009
Mini-Review: The first two Mummy movies were far from action masterpieces, but when you compare them to this crappy film, they seem like Oscar contenders. Without the director Stephen Sommers or Rachel Weisz playing Evie, what the point of making another movie? The worst mistake of all they made was recasting the leading female. Brendan Fraser, meanwhile phones in a performance so awful that it's hard to believe his character was likable in the first two films. This sequel should have stayed buried.
72 Dracula (1992) - Mar 14, 2009
100 Goodfellas (1990) - Mar 10, 2009
Mini-Review: I think this is Scorcese's best film and it still puzzles me that this didn't win Best Picture. Joe Pesci gave the performance of his career and he richly deserved to win best supporting actor that year. All the profamances in this film are good. It is a landmark film and is one of the quintessential gangster films. It's better than The Godfather in my opinion because of its real life approach to mob life. Taking no credit away from Coppolla's Godfather epics but this movie goes one step beyond.
90 The Pianist (2002) - Mar 09, 2009
Mini-Review: This has to be one of the most honest films about the holocaust. Roman Polanski delivers the epic journey of a man who is transformed by a series of events from an highly cultured musician to a scavenging, hollow shell of a human being in a very skillful way. The violence is heartbreaking and graphic with showing the widespread killing, beating and burning of Jews and others, which is unbearable to watch at times. It's still a very touching movie and should be seen by everyone.
87 Watchmen (2009) - Mar 08, 2009
Mini-Review: Zack Snyder brillantly adapts the brutal stylized action and thought-provoking messages of this highly celebrated graphic novel to the big screen. It's fairly close to the written page and he does a really good job of establishing and maintaing the tone of the book. The look and feel of the movie will amaze you from the very start. The action is extremely violent and intense. Parents need to know that the movie is absolutely not for kids. The movie is a masterpiece and worth the almost 3 hours.
67 Hollow Man (2000) - Mar 03, 2009
Mini-Review: I thought this film was pretty good. Unfortunately it turns into a predictable B-grade slasher. This could, and should, have been much better than it is. The only great thing about this movie is the special effects. it may not be enough to distract the viewer from all the negative points of the movie. I do care for this film, it's one of my many guility pleasures movies. Hollow man is not the worst choice you could make it delivers most of what you expect from an enjoyable action thriller.
64 Hot Rod (2007) - Mar 02, 2009
Mini-Review: Andy Samberg is a funny guy, but in this movie he doesn't have enough to work with. I think with a better script and more ambition from the charaters they could have gave us a verry funny movie, this is not that movie. Even though the material is uneven this movie a few laughs, huge dumbass laughs. For example the scene where he falls down a mountain over and over and over. That was just good shot and staged comedy. I just wanted a little more from this movie for me to really like it.
77 The Midnight Meat Train (2008) - Mar 01, 2009
Mini-Review: There's only one phrase to describe "The Midnight Meat Train," Mind f***. This is a horrifying, frightening, heart stopping and chill-inducing mind f*** from beginning to end. This movie is easily, the best horror film I've in awhile and one of the most beautifully photographed horror films in recent years. can't imagine a horror fan not enjoying this movie. It's got everything you want in a horror movie and beyond. I love Clive Barker and his mad visions and I sure did love this movie too.
52 The Mothman Prophecies (2002) - Mar 01, 2009
Mini-Review: If your looking for a good horror movie...this isn't it. If you want a lame horror movie that will definetly bore you to sleep...this is it! This film was 40 minutes of storyline crammed into 2 hours of movie. Considering the subject, it was a rather boring movie. My main problem is that nothing is really wrapped up. There isn't enough happening and too much of what does happen makes little real-world sense. Yes there is a good climax but that hardly makes up for this frustrating experience.
