Mini-Review: The Fincher remake was definitely better, mainly because the climax was done so much better, but this was still a good film. Some of the acting was better in this then the remake, some of it worse. You could say that about nearly every aspect though. A good story, hard to mess up, interested to see where else it goes.
Mini-Review: Under appreciated noir that really holds up despite some shoddy acting and, at times, cheesy dialogue. The entire situation and premise is just great, right up my alley. Even features a few twists and the run time is short and doesn't waste a second of film, worth seeing.
Mini-Review: Much in the same as Louis Theroux's other docs this doesn't offer much insight into the subject that he's covering but it is pretty damn entertaining. This is one of the better ones in that regard and I enjoyed watching it, he just needed to get deeper into the subect matter.
Mini-Review: A decent script but the acting is horrible and really drags what could've been a fair film down to below average. The brother is especially terrible, doing some of the worst acting I've seen in my life. The lead isn't too good either. Has a few nice twists but it's understandably a forgotten film.
Mini-Review: Pretty terrible minus NPH and the waffle bot. NPH really saves it though in his limited screen time, he's just great. The entire plot is just so desperate and convoluted that it actually is too ridiculous, even for a movie as stupid as this is. Watching this in non-3D is pretty bad as well, shit flies at the screen constantly (which I typically find funny cause it's so bad) and it just becomes absurd and tough to watch. Disappointing cause I really didn't mind this series.
Mini-Review: Hippies, hippies everywhere. The entire knife slaying scene really makes this movie memorable and I actually said "holy shit" when they showed the replay of the footage. The performances aren't bad but compared to what the Stones are doing now they look like masterpieces.
Mini-Review: Alexander Payne with yet another hit, can any current director blend comedy and drama as well as him? Clooney is once again enjoyable in the lead and the supporting cast isn't too bad either. Doesn't feel like a best picture winner but it's an easy enough movie to watch and enjoy. And my god is Shailene Woodley sexy or what?
Mini-Review: Destined to be a forgotten film. Tons of potential but it barely cracks the surface on what a filthy depraved animal Uday Hussein really was. Moves a bit too slow for such an action packed film. Impressive how much Dominic Cooper looks like Hussein too but it just wasn't as shocking as it should've been to be memorable or anything special. A wasted effort
Mini-Review: Definitely has its moments but it also isn't this grand sweeping masterpiece that people claim it to be. Some episodes are so heavy handed and ridiculous that it teeters on absurdity. Others are so well done and interesting that you wonder how the hell the same guy made the other ones. How do you have a moment of brilliance and then lose it almost instantly? PS, this is not one of the "most incredible achievements in film." You have to be either stupid or a liar to believe that.
Mini-Review: Heard that this was the worst movie of the year and was sadly disappointed to find that, while still being awful, it isn't the worst thing I've seen this year. It's just nothing new, boring actors, predictable scenarios, lazy everything. De Niro must have so many illegitimate children or a huge drug problem to keep doing garbage year in and year out.
