Mini-Review: You'll laugh, you'll cry, you'll laugh some more, then you'll cry some more. Yes it's unbelievable how lucky Joey is, and 50 years ago it would have been called "Joey The Wonder Horse" but fek it who cares. Loved the whole damned thing. And did honestly cry. Very Spielberg, great human and equine performances.
Mini-Review: I found myself absolutely fascinated, though this really shouldn't have worked. Not sure how it would go over for a non Baseball fan, but it's a compelling story. Slightly baffled by Jonah Hill's oscar nom as he's not given a crazy amount to do really. And if Kerris Dorsey actually performed the song at the end then that kid has a music career ahead of her.
Mini-Review: Surreal, visually interesting and well plotted (if predictable). There are lots of great moments and in jokes here. And as can be expected with ILM, some amazing animation. Well worth a watch, but probably not a kids film. Bit too cerebral for that. But what do I know, I'm a grown up.
Mini-Review: My god, it's full of stars! Fantastic cast bringing, if not quite their A game in some cases then close to it. Depressingly believable bit of politicing even if it's more plausable for the red side of the room (I hope). Could have done with a bit more, mainly because of the cast involved.
Mini-Review: Slow burner and a lot more drama leaning than I expected (was figuring on more of a dramadey). Very well acted and balanced, all the characters come across as real. But the film I wanted to see kicks in about 4 minutes before the end of this one. Still good though.
Mini-Review: Can't say I'm a fan of the artwork, but loved the characters. The cat is fantastic. Plot is rather predictable with a few decent twists thrown in, and even with the style not being to my taste there was the odd visual twist. Well worth a watch (plus it's only an hour)
Mini-Review: Beautifully crafted and brilliantly performed. Though I don't get all the hoopla over the dog, the one in Beginners was way better. Might not be for everyone and it's maybe a bit long, but certainly one for cinefiles. Dujardin and Bejo may carry the rest through though as they are damned good.
Mini-Review: Chevy still retains his chops in this, but the film itself isn't up to it. Plenty of good moments, but hardly grade a material.
Mini-Review: Could easily be a film that's been sat on a shelf for 30 years, bar a couple of modern cars. Very measured pacing which makes the moments of extreme violence all the more pronounced. Great performances by all, though Carey isn't given much to do really. Good stuff.
