Mini-Review: Overall Enjoyment: 0/40, Plot/Themes: 5/20, Cinematography/Direction: 5/20, Acting/Writing: 5/20 A Japanese "horror" move with a strange plot that ends up not being scary at all. Unfortunately it's also extremely slow paced, and a strange plot doesn't mean an interesting one.
Mini-Review: Overall Enjoyment: 0/40, Plot/Themes: 0/20, Cinematography/Direction: 5/20, Acting/Writing: 5/20 This movie was god awful. Stupid premise with boring characters that no one cares about. Also uses a purposefully grainy lens that just made the entire movie look low quality
Mini-Review: Overall Enjoyment: 25/40, Plot/Themes: 15/20, Cinematography/Direction: 10/20, Acting/Writing: 15/20 Most of the time found footage movies have bland poorly developed characters. The main character in this film is well-written, well-acted, believable, and very charismatic. The parts in-between the scares are actually fun in this one, because the protagonist is so amusing.
Mini-Review: Overall Enjoyment: 30/40, Plot/Themes: 15/20, Cinematography/Direction: 15/20, Acting/Writing: 10/20 This horror found footage film doesn't really shake up the genre or turn any conventions on their head. Yet it does nail all of those genre standards pretty well, while also bringing a new story/monster entity to the table. Very well done, fun, and scary.
Mini-Review: Overall Enjoyment: 25/40, Plot/Themes: 15/20, Cinematography/Direction: 15/20, Acting/Writing: 10/20 Very accurate portrayal of depression by the main character. The rest of the characters weren't as interesting, and the story was somewhat heavy handed in it's thematic delivery.
Mini-Review: Overall Enjoyment: 15/40, Plot/Themes: 10/20, Cinematography/Direction: 10/20, Acting/Writing: 10/20 A slow burn sort of horror movie that didn't really do anything interesting other than devolve into torture porn at the end for no real reason.
Mini-Review: Overall Enjoyment: 10/40, Plot/Themes: 5/20, Cinematography/Direction: 5/20, Acting/Writing: 10/20 This movie attempted to be some sort of light-hearted Indiana Jones meets "strange quirky girl" sterotype, but it failed on both levels. The adventure scenes weren't very entertaining, her behavior wasn't very funny, and the two didn't mix well at all. They should have focused on just one aspect, and maybe then they would have made a decent movie.
Mini-Review: Overall Enjoyment: 30/40, Plot/Themes: 10/20, Cinematography/Direction: 15/20, Acting/Writing: 10/20 This remake/prequel was not as good as the original, but is worth seeing. More of an action-horror then it's predecessor it has some amazing CG and tons of neat homages to the original which make it an enjoyable experience.
Mini-Review: Overall Enjoyment: 15/40, Plot/Themes: 10/20, Cinematography/Direction: 15/20, Acting/Writing: 10/20 This film had an interesting premise and some great imagery, but ultimately the main plot was weak. Not really worth a watch unless you are easily amused by clowns participating in violent antics.
Mini-Review: Overall Enjoyment: 20/40, Plot/Themes: 15/20, Cinematography/Direction: 15/20, Acting/Writing: 15/20 A different sort of horror with a slow burn psychological suspense approach. It was well done, but similar to the more well done Rosemary's Baby.
