Mini-Review: Divorced, drunken and from a broken home - this movie doesn't care about Pacino's love affair throughout the plot, but rather it shows his fascination and fear of 'woman' in general. Good performances and a nice neo noir vision of New York made this one worth seeing - of course, had that failed, it is also filled with nudity.
Mini-Review: Soderbergh has become the Ben Webster of contemporary film making, playing his own jazzy variations over countless action clichés with this one. The music and action flows mercilessly and counters the utter self-awareness which would otherwise drag on. Few will like this, though it is one of the more interesting, recent stylistic experiments.
Mini-Review: Peter Cushing is enthralling to watch but the movie can't hold a corpse to other Hammer-films. There's pretty poor FX and only a decent soundtrack. Still better than the original Frankenstein though.
Mini-Review: The Asian Mr. and Mrs. Smith; karma love life and kung fu killings ensues. All seems to be well. Alas, two halves of an old Monk's remains must be found, if you want to rule the Kung Fu Universe! - And who doesn't?! Close on their trail is the old Eunuch master, aka an imperial subordinate; The Monk's body can help him regenerate a penis. Crafty little thing...
Mini-Review: Excruciatingly bad and by far the worst Apatow production yet, possibly even the worst chick flick I've ever seen - and I've seen some shit.. Few funny moments (featuring Jon Hamm) saved me from dying of boredom while these 2 hours were stolen from me (almost 2 hours, I had to 2x speed through the last hour to prevent me from suicide).. For shame!
Mini-Review: Once again Carpenter deals with an inhuman force of evil, in human shape, to great success! The movie, a zombie-western-hold-up with obvious references to his hero Hawks and Romero, is MEGA CHEEZ! But JC sure knows how to create atmospheres to save his ass and 70s grittiness only compliments this, while another classic synth soundtrack pulsates away.. Cool! The bizarrely twisted clichés blend smoothly with his usual chaos and apocalyptic sense of loneliness, creating minor laughs and some shocks
Mini-Review: The plot is thin, although only revealed slowly, and I reckon people mainly watch this for Duvall/Murray anyway - And reasonably so.. Duvall stands out while Murray unfortunately doesn't seem to fit in.. Personally, I applied all sorts of existential themes and angst, before having them shattered by the unveiling of "his story" in the end..
Mini-Review: Movies nowadays about skinny pale dudes sucking on each other, somehow always come across rather homo-erotic.. "Blade" had some fun though, battling freaks and hanging with Kristofferson, before Reynolds decided to show up shirtless listening to iPod all day long - stupid slackers.. This movie however, is quite decent and reminiscent of any Romero zombie-film, in bashing capitalism and whatnot, although less bleak.. Dafoe and Hawke add their usual quality to another one of many indie films
Mini-Review: Pretty bad and unimaginative.. Save for the "Sucker Punch" (L.O.L. moment), Downey's general presence and the neat soundtrack - it's fairly worthless.
Mini-Review: I preferred the first part which was a genuinely atmospheric and engaging portrayal of the city + co.. The rest unfortunately falls flat and is incredibly dated in spite of it 'only' being from '53, with many sequences seeming genuinely amateurish.. Montand comes across as a poor man's Bogart - Aware of this fact he overplays the part; Looking stupid, rather than sly.. I must admit, at times it features well directed suspense and luckily the film as a whole isn't drawn out, though climbing &
