| 100 T10 | Star Trek Into Darkness (2013) - May 13, 2013
"Just as good as its predecessor, if not slightly better. Almost everything works, and though it is big, loud, and occasionally a bit dumb it was a home run for me. Cumberbatch is brilliant - a throughly gripping screen presence. A bit over the top, perhaps, but fitting with the film as a whole. Abrams' Star Trek is by a mile the most engaging and entertaining current big-budget franchise. I thought the Wrath of Khan nods were perfect."
|
| 0 T1 | The Big Wedding (2013) - May 12, 2013
"Terrible. The comedy is poor and off-putting, punctuated only by misplaced and overblown melodrama. There are multiple subplots going on and they all manage to be equally uninteresting, though Topher Grace's trainwreck might take the cake."
|
| 100 T10 | Face/Off (1997) - May 11, 2013
"Re-watching this after a number of years, it appears to me to be a cheesy action masterpiece. I actually love everything about this."
|
| 100 T10 | Total Recall (1990) - May 11, 2013
"Completely enjoyable. You could easily pick it apart and expose its numerous flaws, but it doesn't matter. I don't care if it's just the nostalgic in me saying this: It's excellent. I found the effects to be a breath of retro fresh air in today's CGI-heavy world."
|
| 25 T3 | Olympus Has Fallen (2013) - May 07, 2013
"I can forgive implausibility, but it's dependent on the seriousness of the delivery. Olympus is delivered pretty much entirely straight, so when every part of the plot is completely implausible I'm not too amused. The special effects are overused and very cheap looking. Overall the dumbest action film so far in 2013, and considering that this is the one of the two White House films this year NOT directed by Roland Emmerich, it can only go downhill. Sigh."
|
| 25 T3 | What Women Want (2000) - May 02, 2013
"The minor plots are all infinitely more interesting than Gibson/Hunt, so I was bored most of the time. Could have been a lot better, and as someone who loves this type of goofy 90s premise I'm disappointed."
|
| 0 T1 | Bong of the Dead (2011) - Apr 30, 2013
"It's impressive that Newman made this pretty much on his own and allegedly with practically no budget. That said, it's a terrible, annoying, pointless film. Don't watch it. I can half-forgive a lot of the shortcomings, but it's very hard to look past this horrible script; Could have been improved at least tenfold by simply not having the two most punchable leads in film history. "

| 75 T7 | Iron Man 3 (2013) - Apr 27, 2013
"The best of the three, and probably the best Marvel film not counting Avengers. Some flat villains, inconsistencies and plot holes bothered me a bit, but I enjoyed it too much to really care. Well executed and just plain fun. The credits were great."
|
| 50 T5 | Bullet to the Head (2013) - Apr 25, 2013
"Comparing this to The Last Stand is inevitable, and Bullet to the Head comes out far worse. Sung Kang is a complete bore most of the time, and everything else is just OK."
|
| 75 T7 | The Thieves (2012) - Apr 23, 2013
"Good, but a bit too long. For all its slick production and style the narrative seems to be a bit overlooked, as it clunks along increasingly disjointedly throughout the film. That said, it's entertaining. For every cliché there's something unexpected, and it has some great action scenes."
