87 Harry Brown (2009) - Nov 29, 2010
Mini-Review: Damn, Caine is good. I love how he goes Rorschach style berserk. I got goose bumps during the scene, when he is buying guns. I could freaking smell that shit hole.
79 Where the Wild Things Are (2009) - Dec 20, 2009
Mini-Review: Liked it a lot, but was kind of confused.I got the feeling as if the film didn't know what it wants to be - a story for kids or something more. There were some great things about it, that really got to me(first 10 minutes of the film for example, marvellous!), but sometimes it felt...well, silly. But after all, a child's mind is kind of silly - I remembered the stories I used to make up in my mind as a kid.
88 The Green Butchers (2003) - Mar 01, 2010
Mini-Review: What a truly great film - deserves tagline 'The Danish Delikatessen'. Mikkelsen gives a performance, similar to that in Bad Apples, and also like in that movie, here is presented a situation, which despite being completely immoral, makes you think of its rightness. All that packed with some great humor and a bit of romance is a recipe for success!
54 You Will Meet a Tall Dark Stranger (2010) - Dec 07, 2010
Mini-Review: The film touches quite a number of relationships and tries mainly to present the disappointment they might bring. Funny how the cast also manages to disappoint! Also, why does Woody not do what he's good at(say writing), and lets other people direct his stuff, his direction is really getting more disappointing by every score he makes. But despite all the things that disappointed me, I almost enjoyed it. He mocks some things quite successfully if nothing else
64 Lady Vengeance (2005) - Sep 07, 2010
Mini-Review: I didn't really find myself enjoying it at times, but I must mention the simple but yet nicely crafted revenge plan I absoluteley adored. Park's look on punishment and revenge presented not only in this film, but throughout the whole trilogy, is interesting in two ways: in the sense of a message and also visually - I liked how ruthless the bad and the 'good' guys are. Despite not ranking them especially high, I recommend the three films to anyone.
92 The City of Lost Children (1995) - Nov 29, 2009
Mini-Review: Jeunet and Caro create another grotesque, dark and cruel world, where love is hard to be found. Outstanding acting, great photography, superb soundtrack. And above it all, an amazing story about people(some good, some bad), searching happiness - may that for them be love, power and money or 'just' dreams.
85 The Boss of It All (2006) - Feb 20, 2010
Mini-Review: Not an easy comedy, for sure! It is just great though - from the basic idea of the plot to the way how it is developed. Characters are truly great and bizarre, but I would like to see some relationships explored a bit further. It is so absurd and bizarre that one can't really hate it, though it loses some energy at one point. I recommend it
95 Adam's Apples (2005) - Feb 15, 2010
Mini-Review: This is just brilliant! An array of truly interesting characters, that all just perfectly fit in the plot, which is not really as much amusing as it is all touching, bizarre and thought provoking. Ignorance is bliss!
91 Loft (2008) - Sep 09, 2010
Mini-Review: Quick random thoughts: could this be modern age Dangerous Liasions? The final scene maybe goes with the character but not really with the film, should be cut in my opinion. At some point I thought "This is just like Mr. Brooks, a bit more and it would be overdone". Perverts everywhere, great performances everywhere, morals nowhere; I like. All in all - time well spent
79 Shutter Island (2010) - Mar 18, 2010
Mini-Review: This started off really great - the brilliant music, which kept the suspense up over the whole film, really made an impression at the very beginning. The story got a bit confused and it seemed like as if it was edited sloppy, but all that goes perfectly with the story and is, if not really necessary, a great help to putting everything together at the end. Also: is creepier than expected, but not in a bad way. I recommend
