Bio: I like a lot of movies. I'm a big fan of classical American cinema but I don't limit myself. You have a good recommendation? Send it my way and I'll check it out.
Recent Rankings
57 Public Enemies (2009) - Aug 01, 2009
Mini-Review: Weak, typical biopic period piece. Want to see a good gangster movie? Watch The Godfather.
89 Funny People (2009) - Aug 01, 2009
Mini-Review: Funny People strikes the right balance between drama and comedy that both Knocked Up and the 40 Year Old Virgin had going for it. Its a better story and it actually seems rather biographical for everyone involved. The jokes never miss and its hard not to empathize with the characters even at their darkest, most pathetic moments. I loved this movie and can't wait to see it again.
87 Moon (2009) - Aug 01, 2009
Mini-Review: Totally cool. Moon is one of those movie that feels surreal as you watch it and will stay with you vividly when it's over. The story is actually quite brilliant and it feels very realistic. This is exactly what the science fiction genre has needed for a long time and its a shame it hasn't done better. Either way, great start, I can't wait to see more!
71 Orphan (2009) - Aug 01, 2009
Mini-Review: It's strange... Orphan isn't even a bad movie. It's actually rather disturbing. While it's marketed like a slasher--and I guess to an extent it is--the plot of the film and the twist that reveals what's "wrong with Esther" is really creepy and unexpected. I don't know how I feel about this movie because I left really unhappy and put off by the story but I guess the fact that it made me feel anything than pity for a bad movie was better than I expected. After all, I'd recommend it.
85 Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince (2009) - Aug 01, 2009
Mini-Review: Yates is the right director for this series. Not only is he capable of blending the darker themes the later books carry but he is also able to keep it accessible to a younger crowd just as the book is written. Yes things are changed in the movie but it seems to me that he kept what's important and retains the Harry Potter charm while keeping it relatively short. The series keeps getting better and better.
55 Brüno (2009) - Aug 01, 2009
Mini-Review: This movie is the Devil May Cry 2 of Sacha Baron Cohen.
91 Up (2009) - Aug 01, 2009
Mini-Review: I'm not sure if this is my favorite Pixar movie, but it's sure UP there! Get it?! Really though, Up is a phenomenal movie that is emotionally riveting and delightful in every way. I actually think that Up is really the progression of Wall-E's emotional side but applied to a more human story. This is the year's best so far and it'll be a shame if it's not up for the best picture award at the Oscars.
31 The Hangover (2009) - Aug 01, 2009
Mini-Review: Wow! The Hangover sucked! I actually cannot even tell you how lame this movie was. There was hardly a time when I laughed and I'm not even hard on comedies. This is crude, it's rude, and it's witless. I am shocked that it's so popular and boggled that it's well received. This movie is garbage. Don't waste your money and go see something else.
87 Star Trek (2009) - Aug 01, 2009
Mini-Review: Rebooting Star Trek is a heck of an idea. The cast is perfect and the special effects are really impressive. This is a movie that is genuinely entertaining and doesn't compromise its style for anything. It captures the 60's flair but retains a wholly relevant appeal for a new generation. Star Trek is awesome.
85 Knowing (2009) - Mar 27, 2009
Mini-Review: This may come as a shock, but Knowing is an excellent film. The story is smart and runs its course with a great pace. It reveals just what it needs to at all the right times once it gets going. The marketing team responsible for the trailer has some explaining to do because they sell this to be a cheesy Cage actioner when it's really one of the most interesting sci-fi films I've seen in a very long time. Maybe I'm alone on this but I hope I'm not; Knowing is sure to be a recent favorite.
