Mini-Review: Pure and deeply satisfying WWII revenge fantasy with Tarantino working at the top of his game and a cast including breakout performances by Christolph Waltz, Michael Fassbender and Melanie Laurent. Horror film director Eli Roth and the Office's BJ Novak are fantastic in a flawless supporting cast. And Brad Pitt gives one of the most balls out awesome performances in his career as Aldo Raine. I freaking love every frame of this movie.
Mini-Review: This was a flop when it came out (it was considered too nihilistic) but now this film is rightly reckoned a horror classic. It's genuinely scary almost from the word go and at times almost unbearably suspenseful. I love it but I have to skip the dog scenes. Kurt Russell did some of his best work with Carpenter.
Mini-Review: I'm almost afraid to watch this movie again. I remember watching it prepared to hate it and instead going, "Eureka! I get what you are saying Jennifer Lynch!" Clearly I'm a party of one. I also found some parts hysterically funny although I'm still not clear if that was the intention.
Mini-Review: Pity the real Salieri, who almost definitely was not involved in Mozart's untimely death. But enjoy this film about a man whose love of creating art is inversely proportional to the quality of it and the torment this wreaks upon his soul. Tom Hulce and F. Murray Abraham are perfect as Mozart and Salieri, respectively.
Mini-Review: Heath Ledger is as great as you've heard. This definitely sets a new bar for the superhero flick but it's a downer to say the least. Tim Burton's two films from the 80's are my sentimental favorites, even with Kim Basinger's presence.
Mini-Review: I normally eschew such fare (a man discovers his new girlfriend is the recipient of a heart transplant courtesy of his late wife) but the cast and their naturalistic performances carry this above the glass ceiling for this genre.
