Mini-Review: Even at only 80 minutes (which allowed me to fit a sneakily short cinema trip into a very busy day) this film combines Aristotelian drama and social satire of insufferable upper-middle class americans, and stuffs it into a film where Kate Winslet chunders everywarrr, and then they all get pissed. And I, stupidly, can barely tell the difference between John C. Reilly and Jeff Garlin, which just adds to the comedy. Super enjoyable - the conflict between humans as wild animals and civilized beings
Mini-Review: Actually a genuinely good film, but I'm not entirely convinced the gimmick worked. The leads are both well played, and the story was actually deeply affecting, (in the same sort of way that Bela Lugosi is portrayed in Ed Wood) but too often ruined by hammering home the whole 'silent/talking movie' issue until you were essentially fed up with the main character's stubbornness. Also, ended about 40 seconds too late: for those who have seen it, it should have ended on the sound of the breathing.
Mini-Review: Muhh. I'm not the sort of person who really is into cars - but the Aston Martin DB4 GT chase just sounded so gooooood....
Mini-Review: The only lesson I learnt from this was: If you don't succeed in seducing a lady, then punch something. Then she'll be desperate for your lovin'. Good life lessons.
Mini-Review: Burning with latent tension and power. Claudia Cardinale is so ravishing, I fell in love with her; Sicily is so ravishing, I fell in love with it. The scene where the Prince dances with Angelica, the slow tension and repression is just immense. Brilliant
