62 T5 Evangelion: 3.0 You Can (Not) Redo (2012) - Jun 18, 2013
"Since when did Evangelion need a cliche, 14-year time jump? Honestly, the first two films were pretty damn good this film pretty much threw out all of the thorough characterization in its predecessors and introduced some convoluted plot with little to no explanations about anything going on. I adore the Evangelion series and two Rebuild films greatly, but I cannot condone the changes executed in this film. Regardless, the animation is great and the interaction between Shinji and Kaworu is great."
82 T8 Colorful (2010) - Jun 17, 2013
"The story is very long and methodical, depicting Makoto's dysfunctional homelife with piercing realism. The film also provides us with a character who obtains the chance to peer upon the nuanced dynamics of his life that led to his depression and suicide. The film is creative and animated quite nicely. I must say that Makoto is an incredibly hard protagonist to root for, but if you persevere through the first hour of the film, his penultimate redemption and the inspiring ending are worth it."
89 T9 Evangelion: 2.0 You Can (Not) Advance (2009) - Jun 16, 2013
"As opposed to 1.0, this varies greatly from the series in terms of plot and I think this film is stronger for it. Don't get me wrong, I think the series was pretty damn near perfect, but it is really nice to see different interpretations of this incredibly unique storyline, and this film pulled it all off with beautiful flair. The animation is absolutely stunning and the characterization is still very strong. I really loved what they did with Rei and Asuka; Mari was a nice addition. Give me 4.0"
23 T4 Man of Steel (2013) - Jun 15, 2013
"15 points for Henry Cavill being pretty, 5 pts for Amy Adams' awkward screams and reactions being borderline sexual the entire movie, and 3 pts for the sweet graphics during the final showdown between Superman and Zod. In essence, this movie was beyond disappointing and Zack Snyder has, once again, proven that he lacks any talent in directing and should be blacklisted immediately. The script was all over the place and much of the dialogue and character interactions were laughably bad. "
96 T10 Before Midnight (2013) - Jun 14, 2013
"That argument in the hotel room has to be one of the best written scenes in film history."
67 T6 This Is the End (2013) - Jun 13, 2013
"I laughed a lot and had a pretty good time watching this all the way through. Unfortunately, it didn't really live up to my expectations. I mean honestly, the film is worth it for Franco's party scene at the beginning with the endless amount of cameos and Michael Cera's hilarious performance. Other than that, the humor in the film kind of began to slowly decrease for me as the film progressed, especially with its bizarrely religious plot line that had far too much emphasis."
14 T3 Beyoncé: Life Is But a Dream (2013) - Jun 08, 2013
"Woooooooooooooooooooooooow Beyonce is a person too, who would have thought? In all seriousness though, this wasn't too insightful into what she does nor is it very insightful into her as a person, even with all of the provoking "vlogs". Pretty much a giant waste of time and editing. "
69 T6 Garden of Words (2013) - Jun 08, 2013
"I have some fundamental problems with Makoto Shinkai's writing. He comes up with films that have a decent premise, yet fails to raise them above being melodramatic. Sure, they are very sweet romances, but he just glosses over any true interaction between the characters and relies far too heavily on voiceover to tell us how the characters feel rather than showing us, removing any true emotion. Regardless, as expected, this film is beyond gorgeous and the animation is absolutely stellar. "
82 T8 Momo e no tegami (2011) - Jun 08, 2013
"As another reviewer here said, this reminded me a great deal of My Neighbor Totoro, but I would definitely say Totoro was much more charming and fantastic than this. Regardless, A Letter to Momo runs off of a very simple premise and overall it was very effective and heartwarming. The animation is very fluid and beautiful; at points it almost felt like rotoscoping because the movements were so real/human. The film most definitely could have been shorter, but overall it was great and enjoyable."
