96 The Treasure of the Sierra Madre (1948) - May 18, 2009
Mini-Review: The adventure aspect is fucking great, as a video game fan, it felt like seeing a Western-themed jRPG adventure put to film in the best way possible. I never had much respect for the gold rush era of American history, but Sierra Madre really made it 'real' for me. The characters are great, Humphrey Bogart plays a complete asshole that you just love to hate, and sometimes you forget the 'hate' part. The plot progresses seamlessly and had me hooked the whole time. Just awesome overall.
80 Gran Torino (2008) - May 18, 2009
60 Fast & Furious (2009) - May 18, 2009
83 The Dark Knight (2008) - May 18, 2009
Mini-Review: The joy of psychotic experience made it possible to relate with Heath Ledger's Joker in a way I never thought I'd relate to a comic book-based villain. When the movie finished I remembered that the actor I had just related with was dead and it was a strange feeling. I mean the Joker's psychotic quips had me sitting in the theater holding back hysterical laughter and tears and damn if it doesn't make sense that a suicided actor brought that to me. Blockbuster decade film Oscar for best maniac
87 Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid (1969) - May 14, 2009
Mini-Review: Probably the best movie I've seen based on a true story, or right behind Tombstone, which happens to be another western. Really nice example of a good western, recommended for anyone considering getting into the genre but not sure where to start. The ending is an awesome payoff, even if you know how the story ends.
88 Brazil (1985) - May 14, 2009
Mini-Review: Really funny but also has a nice plot. Great to see Monty Python go 1984, it works great and makes for one of the more original movies I've seen.
92 Le Samouraï (1967) - May 14, 2009
Mini-Review: Jeff Costello is probably the most effective badass I've seen in any movie. Good thing he's not given any backstory at all, you're not even left wondering how or why he is. You just bask in his character as the epitome of awesome. Also, this lack of information perpetuates a great crime-thriller aura about the movie in general. Very good, well-paced movie, nice and subtle but still keeps the viewer interested consistently. I recommend this to anyone who enjoyed the themes in Taxi Driver.
91 12 Monkeys (1995) - May 14, 2009
Mini-Review: Hardly feels like a re-make, everything is so fleshed out and well-paced, it just has a life all its own. Nice tying-in of insanity and cyberpunk themes, very creative approach to a re-make. Very gripping and entertaining, plain awesome movie.
72 La Jetée (1962) - May 14, 2009
Mini-Review: Pretty cool silent movie, but I enjoyed the re-make a lot more.
