62 Rambo III (1988) - Jun 09, 2008
Mini-Review: I just went back and watched all four of the "Rambo" movies and this one is better than I remembered it. Sasson Gabai gives a great performance as Mousa and, although the film is far from perfect, it satisfies.
68 Rambo (2008) - Jun 09, 2008
Mini-Review: The bloodiest installment in the Rambo series...so far (Rambo V is in pre-production and expected to be released in 2009) is better than III and probably has a slight edge over II but, part of that is the benefit of 20 years worth of filmmaking technology and technique. The story isn't necessarily more significant but Stallone also put together a solid cast. Julie Benz gives an especially good performance as idealistic Christian aid worker Sarah.
65 Rambo: First Blood Part II (1985) - Jun 08, 2008
Mini-Review: Less drama and more action than the first installment so, if all you want is action you'll be happy. If your favorite part of "First Blood" was the drama, you'll be disappointed. Either way, this is a pretty good film. It adds a bit of cheese to the franchise but, so do most sequels.
72 First Blood (1982) - Jun 08, 2008
Mini-Review: As with a lot of franchises, the first film has the most meat (and, consequently, the least action). It's probably my favorite in the series with solid performances from Brian Dennehy, Richard Crenna, and yes, Sylvester Stallone.
70 Lords of Dogtown (2005) - Jun 07, 2008
Mini-Review: Not as great as the documentary (Dogtown and Z-Boys) that inspired it (also written by the doc's writer/director and one of the skateboarding revolutionaries the films are about - Stacy Peralta) but, it's still a cool film with some good performances - particularly from the late Heath Ledger.
72 Dogtown and Z-Boys (2001) - Jun 07, 2008
Mini-Review: Solid documentary about the '70's skateboarding revolution by one of the revolutionaries, Stacy Peralta. This inspired the equally solid film "Lords of Dogtown". Both of which grant a sense of nostalgia. It's fun, here in the documentary, to see the archive footage coupled with interviews with some of the skaters today as grown men, too.
60 March of the Penguins (2005) - Jun 07, 2008
Mini-Review: If it wasn't for Morgan Freeman's wonderful narration, I would have been completely bored 30 minutes into this film. However, this is a decent movie. A bit overrated but, decent.
8 The Aristocrats (2005) - Jun 07, 2008
Mini-Review: With all of these great comedians, you'd expect the movie to be funny and it just plain isn't. A lot of these comedians mistake crudeness for comedy. Crudeness can be funny but, in this case, it's not.
60 Lions for Lambs (2007) - Jun 06, 2008
Mini-Review: Preachy, biased, not incredibly well written but, well directed with some solid performances from veteran actors Meryl Streep, Robert Redford, Tom Cruise, Peter Berg, Michael Peņa, and Derek Luke.
85 The King of Kong: A Fistful of Quarters (2007) - May 28, 2008
Mini-Review: This is a fun documentary that really has you rooting for Steve Wiebe.
