Bio: I\'m a filmmaker from Chile, and also a movie critic. I own a big DVD collection with some cool rarities and masterpieces, both clasics and cult ones. I\'m a huge movie buff who also likes comics, philosohy, travelling, cooking and arguing about current events. I\'m also part of the Auteurs site (criterion collection). Hope I qualify. I\'m also trying to recover some of my dvd\'s that got stolen a few years back, so I\'m looking forward to find some of those movies on many torrent sites. thanks!!

100 Jaws (1975) - Dec 17, 2010
Mini-Review: One of the best movies of history. Period. Yes, it's a blockbuster about a monster shark, but that silly material it's handled with such love, care, tension and craft, that eventually it's not just a scary movie, but also a beautiful human adventure, with characters you care for, and a way of telling the story visually that's just masterful. Spielberg's finest moment as a visual artist, and one of the most exciting, fun and scary movies ever made. Come for the shark, stay for the characters.
80 Aliens (1986) - Dec 17, 2010
Mini-Review: Great fun if not the masterpiece of understated tension of the original one. this one is all about overstatment. Lots of violence, gore and a kind of military approach to the whole enterprise. Yet is a lot of fun to watch. Smart, intense entertainment, that also manages to talk about motherhood while making stuff blow up all over the space. It may be more fun, but lacks the charm and elegance of the first film.
90 Sonatine (1993) - Dec 17, 2010
Mini-Review: One of Kitano's best and most whimsical of movies. It mixes violence, manhood, love and tenderness in a seamless way. It also has one of those tragic poetic endings that Kitano has made a trademark of his. Lovely, fun, exciting and poetic. And very violent, but in an ascetic kind of way. As if Buster keaton made action movies. Great film
95 Spirit of the Beehive (1973) - Dec 17, 2010
Mini-Review: great sparse and poetic movie from one of the unsung masters of spanish cinema: victor Erice. Along with El sur, they may easily be the best spanish movies of the last 30 years. A movie that mixes, childhood, Franco's atrocities and frankenstein in such an unexpected yet touching way. Its symbolism is not of the hermetic kind, but it works in a very understated fashion, so by the end of the movie, there's a palpable sense of melancholy. An obsure little seen masterpiece.
94 Crimes and Misdemeanors (1989) - Dec 17, 2010
Mini-Review: Probably Allen's best and most mature movie. Here he could display his comedic and his philosohical sides in equal manner, accomplishing some of the most poignant insights on human nature in all his work, be it funny, tragic or dark. Great acting all over, this is the pinnacle of allen's talent and even if he's made some good movies afterwards, this remains a high point in his ouvre. Great serious comedy.
95 Blade Runner (1982) - Dec 17, 2010
Mini-Review: One of the most poetic and finest acomplishments of the sci fi genre ever. It's a masterpiece that manages to be both visually captivating and intellectualy complex. it also works on a philosophical level, daring to ask the question: What makes us human? Memory, emotions, compassion? all of the above? It may be flawed in some corners, but it remains a landmark movie, which still remains relevant today. It can also be watched many times and each time it will add another layer of greatness. A gem
93 The Iron Giant (1999) - Nov 22, 2010
Mini-Review: Great animated film. It has such a great script and wallops a huge emotional punch that's kind of unexpected for amovie for "kids". It's also intelligent entertainment done with love and craft. A delight and highly recommended for kids AND their parents.
10 One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest (1975) - Nov 22, 2010
Mini-Review: Hate this movie. I know that's not a popular opinion, but I always felt this movie was corny, overcalculated, intelectually dishonest and a bit of a cheater of a film. I wish crazy was just being a bit eccentric! As a depiction of madness is far from realist, as a metaphor of america at the time it just tries too hard but falls short of acomplishing anything but just cliched ideas. Some good acting make this one passable. I still think it's populist to portray crazy people as inspired geniuses
90 The Night of the Hunter (1955) - Nov 22, 2010
Mini-Review: Great gothic movie. So beautifull and disturbing att the same time. This was the only movie Charles laughton ever directed, but what a film he made. Still holds its place in movie history thanks in no small part to Mitchum's inspired and scary acting.
90 North by Northwest (1959) - Nov 22, 2010
Mini-Review: A classic. So entertaining, so mainstream yet so weird and personal at the same time. Its clearly the inspiration for the james bond saga, though the 007 films lacks the sophistication and complexity of this one. It has some of the greatest most iconic moments in movie history, and 50 years later still feels modern. Love it!
