Mini-Review: Basically it can be summed up like this: if you loved the trailer, you'll love this movie. If you thought the trailer was a pretentious wankfest then you'll likely think the same about the movie. I fall into the former category. It's the most engrossing movie I've seen in 2010, and also probably the best; rarely do I want a movie not to end like I did with this. David Fincher has crafted a terrific film that is destined to be a classic in its 21st-century context.
Mini-Review: I can see why people would hate it, but man, this is the most I've laughed at a movie in a long time. The characters and relationships in this movie are ridiculously pathetic and dysfunctional, but the way the Duplass bros. present everything is unique and clever. I liked how there was a bit of a parallel between John's relationship with Cyrus and Molly, and his relationship with his ex-wife. Nothing here should really be taken seriously; everything is played for irony, and it's just hilarious.
Mini-Review: The fantastic cast carries this movie. Seth Rogen, in particular, is better than anything I've ever seen him--hilarious and incredibly endearing. The movie itself is somewhat predictable and some of the directing choices were a little odd, but that doesn't mean it won't make you laugh and cry. And goddammit, I did a lot of both of those.
