Mini-Review: Wildly crazy performance from Tom Hardy, but it was absolutely awesome. The stage performances were an incredible element from Refn. I was watching the commentary for Drive, and Refn talked about Bronson, Valhalla Rising and Drive being a trilogy on human nature, but in 3 totally different meanings of that phrase. I found that really interesting, and after absolutely loving Drive and Bronson, I can't wait to give Valhalla a viewing.
Mini-Review: Yeah, this was pretty awful.
Mini-Review: Ugh, I'm tired of hearing how pretentious everyone thinks Lars Von Trier is. This was awesome filmmaking. For some reason, the subject matter + adding Von to his name in film school + undertones = super pretentious. Bullshit. This was different, with solid performances (Dunst's best) and beautiful, haunting moments layered throughout the film. I've only seen this and Dogville by Von Trier, but I will be viewing more very soon!
Mini-Review: I enjoyed this, yes. Ruffalo improved on Bruce Banner. The rest was popcorn action fun.
Mini-Review: Michelle Williams was obviously an amazing Marilyn. Otherwise, this was pretty awful.
Mini-Review: The initial fight between Tatum and Carano was incredibly in your face and had a crazy sense of realism. And then the rest of the movie happened, and that was unfortunate.
Mini-Review: I love how abruptly the affair is decided to be an awful idea and the situations behind each decision. Oh, and Jackie Earle Haley nailed it!
Mini-Review: The style McQueen presented was awesome. Fassbender and Mulligan had great performances (per usual).
Mini-Review: This would've received a damn perfect score if anyone was cast other than Rhys Meyers.
Mini-Review: Okay. There were some things that were nicely done, especially considering they were using the 5d mkII to film this. The jump sequences, the gunner boats, and the acoustics of the M4 firing - all really well done. Otherwise, zero arc and pretty bad writing. You can't use such cheesy dialogue with guys that don't actually act as a living. Meh. It was just alright. I couldn't really get into it, and I am in the military. Our whole squadron got off work to view this one, but it fell short for me.
