Recent Rankings
83 T9 Argo (2012) - May 05, 2013
59 T3 The Thing (2011) - Apr 16, 2013
82 T8 The Thing (1982) - Apr 16, 2013
72 T6 A Liar's Autobiography - The Untrue Story of Monty Python's Graham Chapman (2012) - Feb 13, 2013
"Takes a while to get into... some early scenes just drag and the laughs are sparse throughout. The more-interesting second half chronicles Chapman's life spinning out of control as the varied animation styles add to the confusion. I'd say it's worth a watch for a python fan or someone interested in animation. Everyone else will be bored or irritated."
70 T5 Edward Scissorhands (1990) - Feb 07, 2013
"Rather shallow fairytale which has aged badly. Never more than a chuckle and little emotional connection. Maybe I'm tired of Tim Burton's schtick, and feel that "creepy suburbia" is played out... but watching this for the first time in 2013 was probably a mistake. Winona Ryder is extremely irritating, which certainly didn't help. "
85 T9 Aliens (1986) - Jan 21, 2013
"A few not-so-subtle reminders I'm watching an "80s movie" is about all that detracts. I prefer the atmosphere of the first film and give that one a slightly higher score. But as a sci-fi action blockbuster full of memorable scenes and characters, Aliens is tough to beat."
65 T4 Mama (2013) - Jan 21, 2013
"Stroy about a woman coming to terms with sudden motherhood with a horror backdrop. Ghost story never rises above 'creepy'... only a few jumpy scares. The more interesting idea of children left to survive alone for years is quickly resolved... likely because their conclusions would have fallen apart on closer examination. Cast does an adequate job.... overall result is a bit 'meh'."
77 T7 21 Jump Street (2012) - Dec 15, 2012
"Expected a stupid gross-out comedy and instead got a real story with genuine laughs and heart... plus some ridiculous action scenes that knew they were ridiculous. It all made some of the moments that WERE stupid, gross-out comedy seem almost out of place. Let's just say, to 21 Jump Street's credit, I'm surprised I finished the film ready to recommend it."
68 T5 The Great New Wonderful (2005) - Nov 27, 2012
"So-so film with a small but memorable part from Steven Colbert"
84 T9 Black Swan (2010) - Nov 26, 2012
"Portman is amazing, Mila Kunis is sexy, Winona Ryder isn't in it enough to bother me (I jest, she's all right in this). Didn't achieve the discomfort levels of "Requiem For A Dream"... but then, what film has? Black Swan is the more accessible film and something I may actually re-watch in the future."
