Mini-Review: Great direction from Payne and and excellent performances from Clooney and Woodley. But a well directed, well acted Lifetime movie of the week is still a Lifetime movie of the week.
Mini-Review: An oppressive and unsettling atmosphere is perfectly evoked, aided by a brilliant score and natural performances, all of which come together in a genuinely interesting genre-bender that is part family drama, part hitman film, part horror movie. However when it comes to paying it all off, the whole thing comes apart with an ending that is unearned thematically, logically and emotionally.
Mini-Review: A masterclass in pacing and editing, with vivid, well-drawn and well-acted characters. The rising sense of doom and overall narrative arc is impeccably controlled. The score is brilliant. Even the science jargon rings true. The best Soderbergh I've seen, and one of the best films of the year.
