Mini-Review: Despite the beautiful setting of Kauai and a nice job by the ones filming "Perfect Getaway", this piece of garbage seems to have been written by a teenager during his vacation in Hawaii. The characters are all conflicted--both good guys and bad guys. Furthermore, the second half of the movie basically castrates IN FULL all character development in the first half . . , making all of the cast irrelevant. It's watchable enough, but don't expect much. Good for a one dollar rental, but no more.
Mini-Review: Hahaha! One of the women Clooney fires kills herself!! LOLOL Clooney falls in love with a disgustingly, pretentious married woman! hahaha! Oh, and Clooney convinces a 55-year old man of his new opportunities while firing him!! LOLOL This is smart and funny?? No, it's typical George Clooney bullshit. It IS directed well, beautifully shot, and the background music stimulates the mind, which is too bad, since I would have loved to have rated this yawner much lower. **Not really recommended.
Mini-Review: I think "Precious" makes several bold statements with its gritty, inner city tale, and surprisingly they are rather conservative. Scorn is cast upon the dismal setting produced by government dependence, and several times its overweight and abused protagonist proclaims the importance of self-reliance and education. This makes her an oddly beautiful, shining small light in a very dark place. It's a compelling story, and worth the price of a rental.
Mini-Review: This movie has striking similarities to the original "When a Stranger Calls". Tension is created not from action, but instead by the feeling of oncoming doom for the heroine as she wanders throughout an eerie house. The 80's throwback thing is quite nifty and executed quite well, but when everything comes out in the wash, "House of the Devil" is STILL a B-movie.
Mini-Review: It's been quite some time since a movie has had me jumping in my seat so much! This is an extremely well-executed movie that knows how to scare you. . . , without resorting to mundane gross outs. Considering some of the more violent scenes (the one with the pitch fork comes to mind), I'm quite amazed by the craftsmanship exhibited by Director Eisner, making such scenes palatable. Rob Zombie needs to take notes about Eisner's style--he might learn how to make a quality horror flick.
Mini-Review: WARNING--If you're already planning to see "Shutter Island", I would highly advise you to stop reading the reviews and simply get out and see it. The ONLY thing you need to know is that it's a quality movie with nice spooky backdrops, it's well-filmed, and cast does an excellent job. Then again, if you don't mind ruining the movie to a point where's the absolutely no reason to see it, continue snooping around.
Mini-Review: A documentary about the black hair industry? Sounds boring, huh? Well, it's not. Chris Rock's "Good Hair" takes a look at the multi billion dollar industry from several angles, and more than not will make your mouth drop open. LOL Fun movie!
Mini-Review: Usually I don't go for "When Harry Met Sally" type of bullshit. And, I consider Jennifer Anistan to be one of the most boring actresses to have hit Hollywood in years. BUT, I cannot deny that "Love Happens" is a sweet little chick flick that is well made and fairly intriguing.
