Mini-Review: Misses the magic of Amelie, but Audrey Tautou is still enjoyable as Coco Chanel.
Mini-Review: Goofy but fun. Brad Pitt leaves you shaking your head. We've all known someone like the Frances McDormand character as well. It just draws you in and you're forced to watch even though it's a little far-fetched and now dated already.
Mini-Review: One of Steve McQueen's more memorable movies. That Mustang was pretty hot stuff when this movie was released. vvvaarrrroooooommmm. Unfortunately, this movie hasn't aged well and some of the chase scenes don't hold up to scrutiny. The Volkswagen that keeps appearing even though it should have been long gone, for example. But as a 15 year old boy in 1968, believe me this was must-see car chase action. I suppose slimy politicians like the Robert Vaughn character never go out of style though. :-)
Mini-Review: At my age, one can begin to understand the emotions and situational significance of this movie. It literally can stop my breathing and leave me in tears at multiple points in the movie. While it may be a fantasy that would never happen in modern America (for a variety of reasons) it still conveys a powerful message and a great, if sad, ending. Nicholson scores with his unforgettable line about 3 things to never do. I enjoyed Sean Hayes' role in this movie - played perfectly.
Mini-Review: DiCaprio did an OK job with his role. I suppose in a way Russell Crowe did as well, if portraying a typical egotistcal government scumbag was the job. Knowing that there are probably people like that actually getting a paycheck from the CIA makes me sick. I would love to see Phillip Seymour Hoffman do a Charlie Willson's War number on Russell Crowe in this movie. That would be an explosive treat, no pun intended. This is a decent but not perfect movie.
Mini-Review: There were a few moments in the movie that were comical or enjoyable. But mostly you'll feel that you're watching some Tommy Boy out-takes or repackaging. That's the vibe that you pick up from Farley and Spade who make you feel as though they feel they're just reprising the earlier roles. This is no Tommy Boy.
Mini-Review: Lousy but "must see" movie if you're a Kristin Scott Thomas fan. I watched it once - that was enough.
Mini-Review: Dated and goofy now, but when this first came out, people loved the young Keanu Reeves and his "dude" portrayal. Still worth an occasional few laughs when no one is around to see you watch it. :-)
Mini-Review: My most-watched and most enjoyed John Wayne film. Maureen O'Hara is sensational and John Wayne has some unforgettable lines. "Now you understand...." his comeback to Richard Boone is great! Some of the animal action is a little politically incorrect when viewed 40 years later, but necessary inn the context of the story. One can just imagine being Jacob McCandles' son while watching this movie and wondering how you would react in the same situation. Worth watching!
