Mini-Review: Ang Lee tries to make the movie look like a comic book with bright colors and visually abrasive editing... and it just looks terrible. Add bad writing and a nearly incoherent plot about daddy issues, and you're left with this piece of garbage.

Mini-Review: It is extremely dark and morbid, but no other tone would do the subject matter justice. Though the story isn't really anything special, the movie does an excellent job showing the root of fanaticism and the terrible cost of fear.

Mini-Review: An absolutely incredible movie. From the breathtaking scenery to the rousing battles to the touching emotions on display, Fellowship is a momentous achievement. The storytelling is at its strongest in this installment of the trilogy: the adventure moves at a personal level, without massive armies. Black riders, the Mines of Moria, and even Gollum are genuinely scary here, and help develop a powerful atmosphere. Jackson's trimming of Tolkien's text is generally for the best (esp. Bombadil).
