87 L' Homme qui plantait des arbres (1987) - Jul 01, 2008
Mini-Review: Stunning. Absolutely stunning.
84 Only Yesterday (1991) - May 17, 2008
Mini-Review: A script of gentle wisdom. A subtle epic.
81 Five Easy Pieces (1970) - Apr 07, 2008
Mini-Review: An imperfectly perfect film of listless melancholy. Very subtle and undemanding; almost existential. Prepare for your subconscious to get ambushed ('though preparation is actually impossible).
71 Le Chignon d'Olga (2002) - Nov 30, 2008
Mini-Review: This is a gem of a simple film. You can just tell everyone from the sound man to the casting director is hugely competent. There really is technical synthesis here. This accompanied with a warm and realistic script has me well won over.
72 Disco Pigs (2001) - Apr 07, 2008
Mini-Review: lyrical and surreal.
73 Tôkyô sonata (2008) - Dec 05, 2009
Mini-Review: Excellent. Note the prescient wind.
86 Ratcatcher (1999) - Apr 07, 2008
Mini-Review: Somedays, this is the best and only film.
90 Baraka (1992) - Aug 01, 2008
76 Lapis (1966) - Aug 23, 2010

74 Genevieve (1953) - Apr 28, 2009
Mini-Review: One of those films that -- while focusing on a specific event -- manages to beautifully capture the broader humanity through naturalism's interpersonal minutiae. I could envisage the lives of the two leads before and beyond the film, as well as hear their thoughts in each moment of silent soliloquy. It's not uproariously funny, but it's astonishingly wholesome for a film of its genre.
