89 For a Few Dollars More (1965) - Dec 02, 2009
Mini-Review: This Leone/Morricone/Eastwood team-up has not got a big story than The Good, Bad and Ugly, but serves as a good quality spaghetti western. The villain is good and so is Eastwood and Van Cleef. Do not miss Klaus Kinski as 'the weird casting choice' of the film.
93 Das Boot (1981) - Dec 02, 2009
Mini-Review: One of my very favourite movies. This tale of german submarine crew is able to potrait the life in submarine better than any film ever. Viewer feels for the characters and is excited about the dangers they confort. This film has several versions, including TV version and they are all good. A true classic that should be seen in original german with subtitles.
90 Sleepy Hollow (1999) - Dec 02, 2009
Mini-Review: Visually very memorable film and a very gruesome story. This film is perfect in terms of presentation of such a fantasy tale. Actors in the film are quite funny and their death scenes are very dramatic. One of Depp/Burton success stories, but usually ignored due it's tight genre execution.
89 In the Mood for Love (2000) - Dec 02, 2009
Mini-Review: I have rarely seen a film that presents state -of-mind of a person(s) than this film. Filled with colour and "mood' this is more of a dream than story. No other media could present a story like this film does.
75 Leningrad Cowboys Go America (1989) - Dec 02, 2009
Mini-Review: Not one of the better films of Aki Kaurismäki but more as a humorous promotion for a band. Ok introduction for the Kaurismäki humour though.
54 Star Trek V: The Final Frontier (1989) - Dec 02, 2009
Mini-Review: This is the worst Star Trek film with the original cast and for good reasons too; the humour elements are total failure and the entire set-up with the main characters been too old to do their jobs is depressing. Just look at the Star Trek 6: The Undiscovered Country for better view on aging topic. The special effects and costumes seem out-of-place as well. Simply a bad film.
80 The Blues Brothers (1980) - Dec 02, 2009
Mini-Review: A feel-good movie that actually lacks blues and is more-like "Soul Brothers". This movie is filled with music and car chases, but the main characters might irritate some viewers....
82 The Dead Zone (1983) - Dec 01, 2009
Mini-Review: This Cronenberg film is un-typical for him on the surface level but has disturbing feeling under it's skin. Based on the better books of Stephen King it tells a story of man having capability to see in the future. This talent brings great responsibilities...
90 Schindler's List (1993) - Dec 01, 2009
Mini-Review: A very emotional film dealing very difficult topic of the concentration camps of the Nazis. Oscar Schindler was a true figure who saved jews from concentration camps risking his own life in the process. Spielbergs sentimental approach suites this film brilliantly.
97 2001: A Space Odyssey (1968) - Dec 01, 2009
Mini-Review: What film could have more memorable images than 2001: A Space Odyssey? If cinema is an art form made with moving images and sound then this film is the testament of that definition. You can try to intrepid the message, understand the symbolism, but best way is just to receive openly this fantastic experience. One of the most important films ever.
