Mini-Review: I know a lot of people who don't like Jack Black. To paraphrase the boyhood version of his character in this film (brave young Jaybles), "Man, they can suck a cock!" I intentionally avoided this film because it got some bad press, but a friend convinced me to give it a try a few months ago and I'm glad I did. I've watched it 10 times since then. I think it's fucking hilarious.
Mini-Review: Why Robert Duvall felt he had to make this film again, in the form of 2009's Crazy Heart, is beyond me. This was a great film. There was no need to do it again. Did he think he could improve upon it? He did not. Skip Crazy Heart and check this out instead.
Mini-Review: The Broken Lizard gang is known for their low-brow humor, but this one was just a little too low-brow. I watched this because, much to my surprise, I really enjoyed Super Troopers. If you're expecting the former to live up to the latter, like me, you will be disappointed.
Mini-Review: The Coen's films are hit or miss. This is a miss. After watching this film, if I didn't know they were Jewish, I would swear they were raging antisemites. Every character is more grotesque than the next. I watched a little of the extras, hoping they would explain why they made this piece of shit. Alas, they did not. They claimed to be drawing upon real life experience? If so, they must be seriously damaged! No plot, no point, abysmal ending, excruciating. WTF?
