Mini-Review: Charming film which plays on the oddness of youth while not exagerrating it so much to be a caricature.
Mini-Review: Far more than just a homage to silent movies, this is a melodrama about outmoded melodrama which uses the very means it's portraying to show us how insipid much modern cinema has become. Full of nuance, enthusiasm, and very persuasive.
Mini-Review: Very tense and well executed but apart from this, lacks real individuality.
Mini-Review: All the usual Almodovar traits are here: sex, violence, androgyny and plot twists. Couldn't get any more than moderately excited by any of it.
Mini-Review: Alright, but really nothing to get excited about. The Coen brothers seem hamstrung by a plot that lacks their customary strangeness and the expectedly quirky directorial touches don't do much more than scratch the surface of this.
Mini-Review: Predictable, schmalzy and dull. Just because it's about the British Royal family does not rescue it.
Mini-Review: Couldn't find much sympathy with any of this. I'm sure I need to be in a more receptive mood for this style of filmmaking.
Mini-Review: Brilliant semi-documentary in which Kiarostami challenges our usual expectations about life and art and produces a warm and prescient human and social commentary.
Mini-Review: Hugely enjoyable and influential heist movie. The plot, the dialogue, the unremittingly negative morality and the plain unfeasability of many of the goings on make this all the more attractive to watch. Brilliant psychopathic hitman played by Joe Don Baker.
Mini-Review: Rocky with teeth. A feelgood movie that would be painful to watch if it wasn't so well done.
