Mini-Review: A diverting, if lightweight, programmer of the Torchy Blaine school. Wyman plays a feisty detective, Foran is her skeptical cop boyfriend, and the crime gets all wrapped up in under an hour.
Mini-Review: Granger shines in this bleak film noir as a young man who kills a priest in his desperation to see his recently deceased mother given a proper burial. Not up to the standards of other Granger noirs, SIDE STREET and THEY LIVE BY NIGHT, but well worth a look.
Mini-Review: A fun first entry in this popular low-budget 1930s series. Go in with low expectations, and you'll enjoy it.
Mini-Review: This musical's got its minor charms, but it's the not a career highlight for any of the participants.
Mini-Review: A fast-moving comedy that shows some promise in the early going, but bogs down once the plot device -- a husband and wife switch bodies, but not voices -- kicks in. Landis looks lovely, as always, but looks can't save this one.
Mini-Review: A Poverty Row mystery involving a murder that is solved by a puffy Lee Tracy as a wisecracking reporter who makes a habit of outwitting the police. Of interest to Lee Tracy fans, but probably has little to offer anyone else. The repartee falls sadly short of the standouts in this genre.
Mini-Review: An excellent early showcase for Fonda, and Livingston is lovely in it.
