87 Dr. No (1962) - Dec 06, 2011
Mini-Review: The first of the Bonds and not one of my favorites, though it debuted many of the signature elements of the "Bond" style. Connery is great (and still the best Bond), but he didn't quite have the level of comfort in the role he did later, which makes sense given this was his first go-around. And while Joseph Wiseman gives a quietly-menacing performance as No, he appears much too late in the movie for there to be as dramatic a climax as there should've been.
79 The Adjustment Bureau (2011) - Oct 20, 2011
Mini-Review: A solid film with a smart premise, although I wish that premise could have been revealed much later in the film. Its not that the plot loses tension, necessarily, its just that the length of time between when we start to understand what's truly going on in this world and the end of the film makes its message sound preachy and repetitive. Matt Damon's acting is excellent as always, and Terence Stamp and Emily Blunt are good as well.
86 Jurassic Park (1993) - Dec 07, 2011
Mini-Review: Having not seen this for 10 years it wasn't as good as I remembered it. It's still one of the more thrilling films I've seen when it comes to the action, Williams' score is breathtaking, and the production and CGI still hold up, but the writing and the acting is hit-or-miss. Most of the characters are grating (especially the two kids, and excepting O'Neill and Attenborough) or one-dimensonal and I ended up cheering for the dinosaurs to eat them.
