Mini-Review: It is what it says it is, a throwback to 80's horror films. The plot is clichéd, the acting woeful and the effects cheap but effective. It would've worked a lot better had it been filmed in a cheaper, grungier style but it's hard to complain once it starts off on a stream of inventive kills and quips.
Mini-Review: When I was a kid the Power Rangers were the coolest thing ever. I was a really fucking dumb kid.
Mini-Review: A very average action movie. Brody plays a convincing action lead, Fishburne is hilarious as he hams it up for the little screen time he has and Topher Grace shows that he can play creepy very well. Unfortunately Nimród Antal isn't a very skilled director and the film squanders an interesting premise. There's very little tension, the action lacks punch and the exposition is at time boring. It's still better than the AvP films but not the full kick the franchise needed.
Mini-Review: The film creates a good sense of mood and atmosphere in places but overall fails to be either compelling or scary. Cheap effects and an even cheaper (and extremely predictable) twist spoil a good performance from Rourke. I also couldn't help but feel that De Niro was just phoning it in underneath all the ludicrous hair and giant nails.
