Mini-Review: State Fair is an interesting watch aesthetically, but much of it is just a voyeuristic view of people enjoying carnival games and rides without a whole lot of story. It reminds me of the very early movies where mundane activities were filmed, not to tell a story but just to document every day things.
Mini-Review: I guess maybe the people giving this a low score expected something different; Hobo with a Shotgun is ridiculous and over-the-top, but it doesn't try or mean to be something other than that. It's a fun time and if you just go into it with the proper expectations, there's no reason to not enjoy it.
Mini-Review: Fascinating tale about a butler's manipulative yet caring relationship with his employer's son. Good writing and acting.
Mini-Review: Much better than the CGI-fest remake starring Guy Pearce. The Time Machine has great effects for its time and isn't overly flashy.
Mini-Review: Suspicion is good, but I didn't feel Cary Grant's character was made to seem as menacing as Fontaine perceived him to be. Still, it held my attention.
Mini-Review: Classic story that has more recently been remade to hell, but this version is a great film adaptation that is intriguing and frightening.
Mini-Review: Great, classic movie with an narcissistic, by-any-means-necessary performance from Kirk Douglas.
Mini-Review: I found the story in Key Largo to be largely non-existent, but Edward G. Robinson turns in a powerful, commanding performance which upstages Bogey.
Mini-Review: Stay Tuned is a silly but fun movie. There are a few good laughs (I especially liked Jeffrey Jones spinning records in the Salt-N-Pepa video) despite a lot of cheese.
Mini-Review: Far superior to the remake, Spencer Tracy gives a convincing, honest performance as the overwhelmed father reluctant to marry his daughter away.
