Plagued with release issues, out of order episodes and a moronic broadcaster, the show still managed to have the the best on screen chemistry of a large cast. It had action and sci fi and humor, as well as sweet sentimental moments. Best part is they were all packed together and really kept you on your toes. If you are looking for serious sci-fi, or life changing stories, look elsewhere. This is the story of a group of people searching for freedom, which is something different for each of them.

Whedon is one of the best writers currently working, and Firefly is a testament to his imagination and understanding of how to get the best of multiple genres. The dialogue, set designs, acting, everything's a perfect compliment to his "Verse". Occasionally a few characters push the limits of how much they can get away with and still be likable (lookin' at you Jayne), and some of the villains are a little too needlessly psychopathic, but these 14 episodes are too creative and fun to be ignored.

Amazingly, it more or less lives up to the hype (and this is coming from someone who finds religiously-devoted Whedonites insufferable, so I'm not coming from this as a cultist at all). Half the episodes are stone-cold classics. Out of Gas is my favorite, but Our Mrs. Reynolds, Ariel, War Stories and the pilot are up there too. Thrillingly muscular dialogue, infinite quotable lines, as terrific a cast as I've ever seen established in so little time. Malcolm Reynolds forever, baby.

As if Han Solo and Princess Leia assembled a crew and went on adventures. Lots of Whedon's witty dialogue executed well, especially by Fillion and Tudyk. Crew dynamics are interesting. Each episode mostly self-contained--some really good others just OK.

Hits some stunning peaks, and overall delivers some Whedonesque fun and a unique mix of the western and sci-fi genres. So glad we got the movie out of its cancellation.

I watched 'Serenity' first, and I think that might have hurt my experience somewhat. But 'Firefly' is still a good show with excellent ping-pong between its cast members.

One of my very favorite things. In my opinion the one season of Firefly that was produced is easily in the top three of any season of any television series ever. Absolutely outstanding and the cancellation of this show is a cultural crime.

While it's cult status is due to limited run, Firefly is not just a space western with great stories. It has heart, and characters with a ton of back-story, and it's always fun to watch.

Since it takes most shows 2-3 seasons to really find a rhythm, it's really amazing how great the characters and their chemistry was in just one. I'm genetically predisposed to hate almost all episodic television drama, so the fact that I enjoyed this is pretty amazing. Definitely suffered from some terrible tv direction and effects (though I guess it won a lot of awards for fx?), but the writing is the business.

I have given many things a zero, after watching Firefly I decided to re-rate those and give them fives because nothing is worse than Firefly. I have never been so bored and angry after watching a TV show. The characters are all trash and display little to no emotion, the effects are awful, and the acting is worse than even The Flash. How does this cancer have a cult following! The fact that I wasted two hours of my life on the first two episodes will be the one regret I have when I die.

Everyone knows the cult success this show has enjoyed following its cancellation, and it has a bit of hype to it. The 'space western' is a neat concept, and Joss Whedon as always gives some interesting writing, plots, and characters. That said, I find it overblown... and while I would like to see it continued (won't happen), I don't get the charge some of my friends do out of it.

At the danger of getting myself hang, drawn and quartered, then set on fire and put out with a shovel: I liked it a lot, but I didn't love it. And I'm not pining for another season, though I will watch it if we ever get it.

Overrated by its fans, but pretty good nonetheless. Decent universe, great characters, okay actors, and a good enough script. I didn't feel the craving for closure that everyone else felt, instead I thought that the one season of the show made for a good complete product.

All my friends over the years kept saying this was the new thing that never got the chance to change the game the way it should have. I felt like it was contrived to fit the arrogance of the lead character, designed for Nathan Fillion. Yet it fell flat because it was generic and ripped from all other sci fi adventures of past. This one didn't take off because of the uncompromising nature of the creator behind the scenes and a network dispute. That saved years of horrible television so thank you.

A lovely little series, lasting only one season. A western set in space, it has the lovely people and fast quips that you remember from Whedon's other shows, Buffy and Xena.

Watched it because of its similarities to Outlaw Star. As expected from Whedon the dialogue can be pretty witty and memorable, but also quite goofy and cheesy. Some characters had deep motives, others were just walking tropes. Episodes also tended to vary greatly in quality. More unfortunate is the series was cancelled before the plot really went anywhere. Overall pretty fun series, if you're into westerns (especially of the sci-fi variety) this is definitely one to check out.

Loved it all, except Heart of Gold. Given time and care the events of the episode could have lead somewhere very interesting. However, since the show got cut off it's a rather low note to have so near the end.

The series itself had an almost perfect mix of action, comedy and drama, and a large cast of nearly a dozen fascinating, interesting and unique characters with great chemistry with each other. If you asked me 10 years ago I would've likely told you it was my favourite TV series, but after rewatching as an older and wiser person I've realised just how terrible Whedon's portrayal of women and minorities is, and have realised, that just maybe, this show wasn't as well-written as previously thought.

A devastating example of "cancelled-to-soon." Fox did not trust Joss Whedon and we all had to pay for it. Firefly is a wonderfully written and groundbreaking Sci-Fi Western. The entire cast is exceptional and the story lines are totally unique. No matter the episode there is a sense of humor to be found across all 14.

Definitely overrated, with some absolutely dreadful acting from some of the cast, but the premise had a lot of potential and the season was reasonably entertaining overall, so I can understand why so many feel short changed by the cancellation before the series had a chance to find it's feet.

A show that had a lot of potential, but was never given the chance to develop. The characters were all fantastic and very well written and acted. The story was still in world-building mode and was never allowed to open up and be what it could but. I compare it to the first season of Star Trek: The Next Generation, a show that took some time to find itself, but in the end became really special. I think Firefly could have been something really great, but FOX gave up on it.

Not really my thing, but it has some nice charm as a Western Star Trek of sorts. Nathan Fillion’s character makes a pretty good protagonist. Side characters are a bit weak, but they only had one season to work with. The score is a bit much, but the visuals are decent for a tv series of its time.

It took me a long time to check this show out despite the rave reviews I heard. I have to be honest, the first time I watched this show, I didn't really understand the hype through the first few episodes. Yeah, the characters were cool, so was the setting, etc, but it wasn't that special to me, until about halfway through. Then something clicked, and on repeat viewings it's so much better.

In the beginning, I didn't understand its appeal, but then it grew on me. There is a naive authenticity to it, and the interactions of the characters are very relatable. As the trans-genre space opera, it is not on par with Cowboy Bebop for example, but it is still decent given all monetary limitations. And Inara is one of the rare "forcefully attractive" female characters, which does not feel forced at all. The last episode is the best I think, it is a shame they had to stop.

Excellent casting choices, tightly written storylines, and I'm going to be the bad guy here and say that I'm kind of okay with it being only a handful of episodes? The show never had time to falter. It's 14 episodes that are each in their own way "the best" of the season. Shame Whedon had to taint his own legacy.

Jebus, PSI. How'd you know? Just finished this with my mom, marking the first time we've watched a prematurely cancelled show together. Real heavy sense of 'how is this it?!', but definitely a show that, once it really got going, made us laugh and intrigued us in a rare way. Unmatched chemistry here -- the thought of a reboot instead of a reunion seems borderline blasphemous.

I like to believe the time of the Whedon apologist is over. So, this show is brutally uneven, the universe is obviously made up as they go along (there’s an episode where the revolvers make PEW PEW PEW sounds), the „witty“ dialogue is mainly tired, the attempts at MA fights are laughable and the only redeeming element is some of the Performances.
