We are so, so sorry for the past 14 hours. Our Hosting Provider decided last night at 21:00 GMT to move our dedicated server. Apparently, they left its power switch off.
The best part is, they don’t offer 24×7 support. So, we sat at our desks helplessly. There was nothing we could do, no person we could reach. It was a fun evening, over the course of which I:
Hurled a phone book across the hall in a manly outburst of rage
Viciously lashed out at anyone in striking distance, for the most minor infractions
Laid my head on my desk, and wept at the injustice like an ugly schoolgirl whose prettier friends have finally abandoned her.
This morning, our Hosting Provider finally rolled back into the office. 2 hours after their working day began (and after about 3 increasingly aggravated phone calls), they got around to flipping the “on” switch.
If there was ever a time for Criticker’s screaming monkey, that time is now.
What does this mean for you? Well, we’re moving to a different provider with 24×7 support (and kicking ourselves for not having done so long ago), so you can expect these kinds of monstrous service interruptions to soon be a thing of the past.
We’re not going to call out our hosting provider by name (yet), but a quick visit to whois.net should tell you all you need to know. Stay away.
