It’s been a while since we’ve been able to feature any new DVDs as Criticker Picks, but today we have two. Incendies is a powerful film from Quebec, which dominated the Canadian movie awards and was up for the best foreign language Oscar. Adapted from a play by Wajdi Mouawad, it concerns the slow unraveling of a Middle Eastern woman’s secret past, and is wonderfully directed by Denis Villeneuve. The other recommendation this week is Meek’s Cutoff starring Michelle Williams and Bruce Greenwood, about a group of settlers lost on the Oregon Trail. Not many Criticker users have seen this excellent film… but that should be corrected, now that it’s on DVD.
The other three films on this week’s list are worth checking out, too. All of them received positive reviews at Criticker.
