Spiritual Fantasy is a subgenre of fantasy that deals with the afterlife, angels, mediums, spirits etc with protagonists usually stuck in afterlife, communicating with spirits, or being asked to do jobs on earth for angels to help others (or themselves). Or being given a second chance in life. Not usually dark in the sense of demon hunting, or saving the world from malevolent forces - but more personalised. More closer at points to Magical Realism structures than Dark Fantasy.

Surrealism is a genre that, whilst not containing a persistent aesthetic, attempts to capture dreamlike states, hypnagogia, and sub-conscious thoughts.
