A regional branch of exploitation cinema populated with hillbilly and good-ol'-boy stereotypes. Emerging in the mid-1960s as low-budget drive-in fare, this southern-fried sub-genre went mainstream in the '70s thanks to a string of successful Burt Reynolds pictures.
