Post-Apocalyptic is narrative set after the collapse of civilisation. How this happened often informs the particular type of story within the setting. It can be after a destructive war (usually nuclear weaponry), an infectious disease, climate collapse, technological collapse, alien invasion or a zombie outbreak. Whilst usually indirectly associated with science fiction, it is not always the case. Post-apocalyptic settings may also crossover with Dystopian settings, which may depict future societies during times of heavy oppression, violence, and scarcity as a result of disastrous, unfortunate events. Like Dystopian settings, they may also serve as a criticism of contemporary society and social behaviours along with their possible outcomes. This may also crossover with Survival as it follows characters in their struggle for food, water, shelter and protection from the elements.
