Mixing genders. I like that. The flick is funny and adventurously exotic Islandic story of a man who does not want to grow up. Lola is so vital for the whole story that the movie could be called simply as Lola. Lots of extra points to Abril and specially the numberous variations of the Lola song. After breaking point director looses his touch and the end is pretty lame. But still after the movie you can hum catchy Lola in your mind.

One way of looking at it is as a great advertisement of Iceland.

The main character is a massive prick, sure, but it's got a breezy pace and doesn't take itself too seriously, so it's surprisingly enjoyable.

Top badass moment? Main character Hilmir was a waste of space in so many ways. However, his reaction when going to a family dinner party at Christmas and then having to sit there and watch a video they made the previous year of them all eating at the same dinner party, was understandable. Please someone, if I ever get that bad, take me to a vet to be put down. No cats, chainsaws or decapitations.

"Fuelled with enough sex, drug use and offbeat humour to make you immediately book a flight to Iceland, this initially chilly comedy soon warms up to pleasing effect."

It's a comedy, but one that aims for a 90-minute smirk rather than a set-em-up-and-knock-em-down series of laughs. Although at times it veers dangerously towards wacky sex farce terrain, it manages to keep its composure and heart. Stylistically a mess, as the director tries to pay visual homage to every American and European film he's ever seen, but Icelanders come off as a culturally insecure people so that seems to fit. In a word? "Cute."

Charmingly blase about its characters' sexual misadventures, however it seems to be constructed from a series of random wacky scenes, and in the end the zaniness becomes wearing.

As wry and cynical as its central character, this film's other characters therefore wear their personalities and problems like costumes. I laughed a few times, though.
