The real reason to watch this is the chance to catch Magaret Hamilton make a nod to her iconic role as the Wicked Witch of the West. There's something pleasing about it. The idea of 13 different ghosts haunting one house leaves so much room for awesome that it couldn't concievably be remade poorly. And yet, it was. What's worse? The Illusion-O gimmick, or the gimmick that is known as Matthew Lillard?

The "13 Ghosts" in 13 Ghosts actually have very little to do with the plot of the film. Their presence is pure gimmick and the scenes where they are on screen are weak and repetitive; if they were to be absent it would probably improve things. The film has some likable characters and a couple of enjoyable scenes, but it's all a bit silly and not nearly fun enough to overcome its shortcomings.

This is a fun little horror movie, but nothing very special. Hasn't aged that great, but that adds to the (already high) camp factor.

So I basicly watched this because of my highly inappropriate luv for director Castle and I was sorely disappointed. It's okay as a time waster and you have to admire the brilliantly moronic gimmick but all in all this movie put way too much emphasis on attempted humour and repulsive child acting.

Goofy fun, especially with the "illusion-o" glasses. It's definitely very campy and about as scary as puppy in a bedsheet, but it's never all that dull (well, maybe during the opening of the oddly edited seance scene - but the appearance of the ghost there is unintentionally hilarious).

It's amusing to see how far a gimmick can take you. Admittedly I didn't have a special pair of glasses, but the gimmick doesn't go far enough for them to be of any real use. Everything else is just procedural and routine in the horror genre.

It had an interesting idea at first, but then it's just so childish you almost wonder if it's not a kid's movie.

Wonderful silly fun. It's campy, but that's a trait Castle knew how to work with, making it age quite well. It's appropriately scary but mostly entertaining and with a nicely executed story wrapped around the gimmicks.

Super gimmicky to the point of distraction. The movie is very cheesy and not very fun or entertaining and its not every remotely scary nor does it really try to be.

Fun movie even if the material is a bit thin. "Don't ask me no questions and I won't tell you no lies."

Fairly dated now, but I can see where the effects would have been edgy at the time. Enjoyable watch either way.

Unlike HOUSE ON HAUNTED HILL, there aren't many genuine scares in this. It revolves around a gimmick (unsurprisingly) with a pair of glasses: look through the red if you want to see the ghosts, blue if you don't. It's an amusing trick and the film is goofy fun, but if you're looking for chills, you'll be disappointed. No one seems to be taking it too seriously. The film isn't quite campy enough or original enough or anything enough to leave much of an impression, but it has a few charms.

This movie is what it is. Campy, fun, nostalgic, somewhat gruesome. When this movie premiered, audience members were given "goggles" they were supposed to put on when the characters did to see the ghosts. Really it was just 3D glasses and you would have seen the ghosts no matter what. Castle never fails with the gimmicks nor the weird characters.

BlurayRip RARBG.

It's silly, it's campy, it's Castle. Not as fun or memorable as House on Haunted Hill (though the plot is really a bit too similar when you boil it down) but it has its moments & the cast deliver solid performances. The ghosts really aren't that entertaining & have little to no personality- something the remake would improve on drastically- but one of them is an actual lion so that's pretty fun. Pure 60's sharp cheddar, but entertaining enough for horror buffs.

It's pretty fun if you look through the blue visor whenever it prompts you so it seems like the characters are just staring at walls for five minutes.

The special effects might have looked impressive in 1920. Too bad its from 1960. But watch this as a live-action Scooby Doo episode, check your phone during the drawn-out scenes of people trying to react in horror to nothing, and it has a certain amount of campy charm.
