Awfully contrived. And Van the Man plays it rather arch throughout.

Not bad, interesting premise with a well-developed flawed main character and supporting cast. The villains seem more like a side story and their plot wasn't that interesting. Hannon makes some totally boneheaded decisions. Fav scene: manservant's notes on rain during his mission.

Engaging mystery film that anticipates gialli in some respects, while riding in the wake of Hitchcock.

Not quite Hitchcock, but close. Henry Hathaway is an accomplished action/suspense director, Van Johnson is as good as I've ever seen him, and Vera Miles is lovely and sympathetic.

A pretty good thriller with an engaging mystery at its core. Parts of it feel very Hitchcockian, particularly the scene with Van Johnson's character stumbling around the bomb-damaged building, which is truly heart-in-mouth stuff. The atmosphere is enhanced by the excellent location shots of fog-bound London, although some of the minor characters like the pub landlady are a bit clichéd. Overall, nothing ground-breaking or remarkable, but definitely worth a look.
