Noble, first-hand look at the AIDS crisis in the 80s does a largely fine job of marrying the micro and the macro of the ward culture vs social stigmatism, however it feels like the social response (framed by the Reagan administration) has enough meat for its own movie (or at least a longer and more in-depth one). This works best in the micro, as a raw and quite moving portrait of the physical impact of the illness, and those compassionate enough to deal with it in humane terms.
