5x2 is a haunting and realistic evocation of the evanescence of love, and how adult relationships evolve over time. Returning to a more intimate scale following his international smash "Swimming Pool," Ozon's chamber drama is an anatomy of a failed marriage told in reverse chronology. (ThinkFilm)

Liked the time-in-reverse notion, but the film seemed a bit sketchy. Has good moments, but the overall feel of the thing is akin to a cheap shot--underscored by the heavy-handed sunset symbolism at the end. So the seed of first love becomes eventually (and inevitably) the blossom of divorce? That's rather ignoring all the stuff in between, isn't it? Think it would've been far more effective if the ending had been a joyous awakening; that would only have increased the poignancy of the rest of it.

Relationchips are hard work from the beginning to the end ( in case of 5 x 2 from the end till the beginning ) Ozon catches the mood of his two main characters perfectly and created a Drama that's worth to see.

Fleeting moments where it feels uniquely pure. Ozon appears to be getting better at this.

If I remember correctly this was painfully dull.

This is a somewhat bittersweet film. I imagine that quite a number of people, perhaps some middle aged people, may be able to relate to whats depicted on screen - the various highs and lows of the relationship between Marion and Gilles. The performances are good and its, in general, a good film but I'm not sure I can say too much about it.

Siiiiiiigh. I don't like Francois Ozon. I actually thought I might like this one, but no it more or less feels like a soap opera if written by a fashion magazine and sprinkled with unconvincing attempts at artfulness. The music choices are bad, the only vaguely interesting shots are heaped in cliche (that ending shot, argh!), the film seems largely uninsightful (go watch the massively superior Scenes from a Marriage instead) and I don't see why this couple ever got together in the first place.

Early scenes are disturbing and fascinating, unfortunately it becomes less interesting as it goes along. The husband is one of the biggest cunts I've ever seen in a movie.

I can't understand why this is called by some a realistic movie about the end of love. What's realistic here? There couldn't be more extreme acts to make their "love" break (and anyway... was there any love between them at some point?). If a relationship begins with shit, it keeps being shit and ends with a big shit. Most of the times relationships don't end because the extreme points in this movie, because love is more fragile than that, relationships don't need nuclear weapons to end.

As we travel back through the key moments in a failed relationship, we see the seeds of the break-up. While this is a great idea, it failed for me at some level because I could see why they broke up, but not why they were together in the first place.

Interesting because we are curious to know how the relationship has begun instead of how it has finished because we already know.

Ozon doesn't seem to have a very high opinion of heterosexual men, does he?

I glimpse a sober director with a wish to convey something, but the film is harmed by clichès (narrative-wise) and comformity (cinematographically-wise)... Ozon study his character with an ok concern, but it's ultimately a forceless film.
