7 Boxes

This was the first Paraguayan film I've seen and to be honest I was somewhat underwhelmed, nevertheless, I'm expecting to watch more from this country in the future.

An impressive and ambitious low-budget thriller whose flaws (cartoonish villains and a slightly underwhelming MacGuffin) are more than offset by its swift pacing and creative camerawork. Ok, by blockbuster standards this film's technical achievements would be considered barely average, but for the less experienced Paraguayan cast and crew it stands out as a big success. Various storylines are interleaved very fluidly and the overall entertainment factor is high. These directors can go places.

This is, I believe, the first film I've seen from Paraguay, and I was impressed by the quality of the production. It finds a nice balance between action, character moments and social commentary, and it kept me entertained throughout.

Terrific. If not for cartoonish/out of place bad guys in otherwise pretty grim movie this would had a cult following.

Extensive comic relief and a breezy, convoluted MacGuffin plot that's all catharsis makes the film's darker moments seem callous and stabs at emotionality feel like crocodile tears.

Welp, I'm never going to Paraguay.
